tired of stripping those clutch head bolts I decided to replace them with regular hex heads and lock washers

Re: A '54 named Busty
alright I must admit putting the new track/window in was so much easier now as it actually [ahem] rolls in the track as opposed to the old one jamming constantly

Re: A '54 named Busty
That's because you are using a drill to remove a bolt.
Hate it when they won't just come out and do something silly like break off.

Re: A '54 named Busty
funny you ask my friend, cause your inquiry motivated me to call a friend and admit I aint too proud to to get sum help and finally shove that driver side door glass in properly, as it was fighting me for days so I gave up and had to walk away, some of you may know how that goes!
so fireman Mark came over, we sat down and watched the Jerry Kassis video for about 2 minutes, and Mark goes you ready to try it? Mark has a gorgeous '65 C10 with a Camaro LS1 in it that I helped him tune and just like that we had that window in there, and Mark even helped me align the driver side door properly though we had to peel the brand new door molding completely off! so the driver side is done, now just gotta remotivate myself to do the passenger side |

Re: A '54 named Busty
I changed my mind on the interior door handles/pulls and ordered these Jeep style ones on AMAZON
I already mounted the one on the driver side and will post actual pics soon I like them because they are adjustable to pretty much any size / bolt spacing |

Re: A '54 named Busty
set screws always worry me when they have to transmit torque ... i'd suggest getting everything on and tight, then pull it all back off and put a dimple where the set screws marked. just drill in like the depth of the leading V on a 1/4" or 3/8" bit, it will give them 1000X better hold.

Re: A '54 named Busty
so these didn't work out for me and I only have myself to blame, apparently 0.4" in DECIMAL does not equate 1/2" who knew? and who writes inches in decimal?

Re: A '54 named Busty
I am really impressed with these United Pacific Inside Window Crank Handles, they are heavy, feel solid, and not flimzy at all, and most importantly they fit

Re: A '54 named Busty
so good news, bad news
the good news is both windows are now in the bad news - it takes both hands to roll them up (funny thing is this is exactly how this project began, lol) and here's what the problem is the new glass is 1/16th of an inch thicker, so it's 1/4" thick the old OEM glass was only 3/16ths so ... the new glass is a very tight fit inside the new felt for the vent window channel, the other new side is much wider as you can see in the pics below |

Re: A '54 named Busty
so I called up the Filling Station where I got them from for some advice, and they basically told me to do what I was already trying, which is to try and spread that channel out wider
so after hours and hours of trying, nope that did not improve squat! this is the wider new channel, you can see how the 5/16th wrench fits in there easily |

Re: A '54 named Busty
and here is the OEM vent window channel with the new felt (I don't think there is anything wrong with the new felt by the way, I am just describing the situation)
by the way I told the guys at the Filling Station that I am not trying to return or exchange anything and that I would just eat the cost of the new thicker glass if they know of any other company that makes the thinner stuff, but they said the didn't Last edited by Gregski; 01-30-2022 at 12:47 PM. |

Re: A '54 named Busty
Well, that sucks!
I am going to our local glass company this week to ask them about cutting a piece of glass for me. I'm doing the 48 windows and would like to do away with the metal channel around them. So, you might take them to your local glass company and try that.

Re: A '54 named Busty
so today I needed to driver her, and I thought will she start, I mean it's been 3 months (pronounced six) since I drove her, I was certain the battery would need charging and I was dreading the old gasoline, but before reaching for the battery charger I gave her one kick, and she fired right up on the first try, boy I love this ol' girl
you know what they say, the older the Violin the sweeter the music!!! |

Now this problem is super odd, Mark and I finished the driver side door together, and it shut perfectly (ok decent for a '54 ha ha) and a few days later I worked on the other side, the passenger side door, I installed the window, readjusted the door so that it would shut again after pealing off ALL of the brand new weather stripping and installed the door panel How could working on the passenger side door jack up the driver side? I know I know, don't answer that, ha ha |
