I need some help from the guru's. The headers I bought have a bung for a EGT sensor. The bung is welded on but the tube is not drilled. As per instruction it states if the vehicle is equipped for a EGT drill through the pipe and screw it into the bung. Since the engine is TBI. What would happen if I didn't use the sensor? I'm not expecting any huge H/P gains, but is there any pros or cons on use'n it or not. Or would the computer get funky on us?

I cut my s10 mounts and switched sides and rewelded them. There's some plans on here to make your own. Also, there's a few companies out there who make swap kits (however the cab sits kinda high). If I were to do it again, I'd use the plans on here and fab up some for my swap. Hmmm...may be I should build myself one and see if my son would help out on the build. Naww, he's really into xbox, dirtbikes and girls now. I'm sure I'd be solo on the build. There's a few s10 swaps going on here right now. Check them out.

I think that since you have your own place now you should build another one. ;-) Just imagine a father's and son's trucks parked next to each other at a car show. You already know what to do, but this time maybe a bigger engine?

No, I painted it olive drab to see how smooth it was, but never installed it. I've thought about starting over, but I can't get the right one on paper yet. Once I finish my "honey-do" list I hope to finish his truck.

What they're referring to is not an EGT sensor, but an Oxygen sensor. If you're gonna run your motor carbureted, then, NO, you don't need it, but if you're running the computer, then, YES, you do. It'll cost you about $20 for the O2 sensor, and you'll save that the first tank of gas you rin through it. If you don't use it, the OBDI computer will assume the engine is in "closed loop" all the time and it'll run rich. VERY RICH like a cold engine. Once the coolant temp sensor says the engine is up to temp, it'll switch to "open loop" and use less fuel depending on the temp and demand of the engine.

I agree except you have the "loops" reversed. cold engine is open loop and the engine runs off set tables in the computer for timing and fuel control. when it reaches operating temp it switches to closed loop operation and uses feedback from the sensors to control fuel and timing.

After painting the inside of our new house (some rooms twice. Freaken wife!!!!). I've finally been able to somewhat clean and paint the garage and give the Jimmy a nice place to sleep. I still have a huge to-do list for the garage (more lighting and Race Deck flooring. More deck space in the attic). Now I have more elbow room for projects.

the truck is realy nice but paint the wheels the red is just a little too mush and look too new .... with mooncap style hubcaps wouldnt stick out as mush but without them it doesnt fit the original colour of the truck they looked good in the original flat black .
other than that its a great looking truck

I think I see an Idaho Centennial Plate on the wall by the garage door bracket. Would you like an older green Famous Potatoes to go with it??? I am suspicious however, that garage is mighty clean and not many spare parts laying around (see my build photos for a "real" hot rod garage LOL).

Well OrrieG, I'd like to have it. I don't think I've ever seen the older green ones. Yeah the garage is pretty clean, and according to the wife it has to stay that way...lol I've got a small shed that I keep all the spare parts in. I'm try'n to work out a deal on a 39 GMC panel. Once I get it in the garage I'll get the new paint broke in.

Nick- I've been looking at a company called racedeck http://www.racedeck.com/
it's kinda pricey, but if we ever move I can take it with me. Costco sells something close. The one stall has a epoxy paint already done. However, the 2 car stall...well the P/O painted something on the floor (looks like bed liner) and it's really thick in some areas. If I were to epoxy it or use VCT I'd have to remove all that stuff. With the racedeck I could lay it down and be done with it. I've always wanted a checkered floor. I'm planing on use'n the one stall for my shop area. I've been lurking over at this garage website http://www.garagejournal.com/ try'n to find some ideas for paint and storage. Really cool forum if your into garages. Thanks again guy's for the positive words.

I am VERY impressed with your truck as we all are here. I read through the entire thread and I have a couple questions, I hope you don't mind.

On the very first page this picture shows your floor insulation. Is it what I THINK it is? That 1/4" thick sort-of-quilted sheet stuff you can get at Home Depot. Did you just spray adhesive it to the floor? How do you think it compares to Dynamat? I know Dynamat is expensive and heavy but I'll be willing to buy it unless something like what you used works nearly as good for a LOT less.

2nd Question: When you said you POR15'd the whole body inside and out, how much sanding did you do beforehand? I have read that POR15 must have rust to cling to or that it won't work right on non-rusted metal. Did you brush it on? Any "tricks" to using it? My '46 has what appears to be a ton of paint on it. I have debated sanding the paint off it with 80 grit, fender by fender, or having it soda blasted. THEN doing a RUstoleum job like you did but I don't know what color..flt black maybe or possible light olive like you did.
Any advice appreciated, Dan
