Re: 67 SWB First Build
Little update-
The little guy is 2 months old and boy has it gone fast. I really haven’t had much time in the shop, but between diaper changes I’ve been able to knock a few things out. I saw a few other members on here that had purchased these altman easy latches and they looked like a nice product. After some research on the forum and elsewhere online, I decided to make the purchase. The panel that installs on the door was pretty straight forward to install. Shot them with some primer before i installed them. I’ll seam seal them and the rest of the doors when I tear it all apart again. Early on I purchased some aluminum hexagon mesh for a grill insert. After i completed the shaping and figured out how I would attach it to the grill, i realized I’d lose access to the hood latch handle. After scouring the forum, i found one post about a simple mod that someone did for a similar reason. I decided to make a under the bumper hood latch handle. Cut the handle off and flipped it. Used some small angle iron for a bracket and some steel flat bar as my handle. Here it is mocked up to ensure it worked. I’ll eventually pretty it up a little bit and add some sort of padding/handle latch to the bottom of the core support to prevent it from swinging around while driving. Also, I need to get some new bolts, as i just used what i had laying around to mock it up. Lastly, I purchased a few small items for the interior. Still unsure if I’ll use these cup holders. It’s a nice piece, but I’m still on the fence on whether or not I’ll use my 67-72 seat or if I’ll get something out of a newer rig that has a fold down console/cup holder. I saw this thread and thought it was a pretty cool seat swap. I’ve searched around on CL and market place, but so far i haven’t seen anything. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...ght=King+ranch Until next time! Al |

Re: 67 SWB First Build
All awesome work man. Really like all these ideas, grill mesh and relocated handle is sweet. I'm in the fence too on cup holders with bench seat. Where do I put them.

It has been a fun project so far, but definitely looking forward to seeing that light at the end of the tunnel. Also, much appreciated on the congratulations. Being a dad has been a blast so far. Re: 67 SWB First Build
After we put the kiddo down for the night, I Snuck up to the shop to get a small project going and also listen to the WSU cougs on Pac-12 after dark. Made a little progress and my cougs won!
Starting to tear the pickup apart again to go through some final sanding and get all my panels ready for urethane primer and paint. I started with the doors tonight. Got everything seam sealed. Also, Last weekend i use my dad’s sand blaster cabinet to hit a few small parts. I robbed the door panel trim from some old doors i have. They were in pretty good shape. I’ll need the trim to hold my new door panels in place. Got them in primer last week, too. Lastly, while i was using my dad’s sand blaster cabinet last weekend, we started flipping through some paint chip books. Really liking this blue/teal color chart. Hope to get a color picked out soon do i can get the paint. Cheers. |

Pickup is being blown back apart. Hopefully next time it’s goes back together it’ll be in a color! Probably a ways out still.
Been painting small random brackets and pieces whenever i get a chance, too. |

Re: 67 SWB First Build
It’s been over a month since i last updated thread. I managed to accomplish a couple of small items, mostly consisting of sanding.
Had some family swing by a couple weekends ago and i took advantage of the extra bodies to help move my box to a rolling cart. Once on the cart, i did a final sand before urethane primer. With better access to the back of the cab, I sprayed a couple areas with the feather fill to clean up the body lines a bit more. After a couple rounds of that, the cab is ready for a few coats of urethane primer. I also finished prepping the front bumper as well as the entire front clip and doors for final primer. My raw hands will appreciate the break from the sand paper. I put the core support patch off for so long that i had forgotten about it until i saw the damage when dismantling the front clip. It needed a small patch where the battery acid thinned/pitted the metal pretty bad. Also had to weld in a nut that had popped out at some point. I’ll be meeting up with my parents for a small get together this weekend, so hopefully my dad and I can get my paint order finalized. Also picking up the catalyst for the urethane primer so hopefully that happens in the near future! Have a happy new year! Al |

Hey thanks! It’s a slow go but still motivated! Much appreciated. Spokane is a pretty great place. It’s been a pretty nice spring here so far... means more yard work and less time on the truck |

Re: 67 SWB First Build
As i mentioned above, still trying to stay motivated on the project and making the most out of my short stints in the shop!
I have pretty much the entire pickup sanded down to 400. Only a few minor things to go over before i call it good on my end! Switched gears to the frame. I had been talking forever about getting the frame blasted and I’m finally ready to make it happen. I stripped the frame bare and have it ready for a mobile blaster. Lots of rivets removed for the future suspension |

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Awesome! Glad to see your finding time for the truck with the little one. How is the adjustment? I will be in the same place in the next few weeks and I have been going hard on my truck while I still have the time. I am very excited to meet our little one and hope to still get out there too. Great work on the truck!

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Damn that is looking great!!
How in the heck are you able to work on it in this crazy stupid heat!?! It is killing me not working on the truck... I will be a bit this weekend though... I am at that point i need to add primer and start the final filler and well in this heat i cannot. So i will be installing Seam Sealer and POR15 in places. I can keep the shop door down, fans going and mini-split on to keep it around 80 inside maybe, otherwise i need to open the shop door to exhaust the paint fumes from the the primer.. Stay safe and cool sir.

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Over the last couple weeks i got some small stuff buttoned up. Lots of bouncing around on the frame while I wait for my brake kit to show up.
Rear sway bar loosely installed. Everything fit very well together with the QA1 kit! Tank installed for hopefully the last time. Also got the new moser 5 lug axles and bearings/seals swapped into the rear end. Front sway bar installed. Waiting to sandblast and paint my center drag link to get those steering components installed. Also i was able to get the new prebent brake lines laid out. Have my fingers crossed that my brake kit shows up this week. I’m getting anxious to make this thing into a roller! |

Re: 67 SWB First Build
Another small item checked off the list. Got my front suspension components installed. The centerlink is from a squarebody that i purchased from a member on this site. I was surprised how tough it was to locate one locally.
New 73’ -87’ tie-rods installed. Started installing the new brake kit. Took awhile to come in but looks awesome. Something i didn’t realize was the rear rotors need bored to fit the axle hub and the axles need machined down to accept the rotors. Minor inconvenience, but the final install will have to wait until i get them into a shop. |

Re: 67 SWB First Build
New tubs showed up after Christmas so i took the time this weekend to get them mostly installed. Plenty of room now for the rear tires. Toughest part was just modifying the floor rib to fit the outside tub lip.
Still need to prime the last wheel tub and do a little more bodywork on the fender wheel well lip. Getting there, slowly but surely. |
