Installed new dimmer switch, headlight and reverse bulb on my longbed. Next is hunting down why the brights circuit is open. Buttoning up a new fuse block setup to mount pcm, Tac Module, obd2 and clean up wiring in my shortbed.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Finally...some time on Old Blue...

truck has sat idle for a few years now while I worked on other projects, mostly for other folk...

Purchased this 1967 LWB 2WD V8 about four years ago...put it on the shop, ripped off the bed and doors and seat to clear out mice nests...and there it sat...until today.

Checked the oil and coolant...
Bypassed the ignition circuit and starter circuit by removing firewall plug...
Pulled carb and cleaned out the junk...no gasket set available so I reused the old ones...
Added a temporary fuel supply system and primed the carb....(original 2GC )
Turned her over a bit to get some oil circulating....
Connected power to Ign circuit and away she went !.....

No smoke
No blowby
Let her warm up for about 15 minutes...darned thing sits there and idles !

Some times it nice to work on something just for yourself...

Pics coming later...

Nearly time for football!!!!

Put a NOS door latch from Riverside Truck and Auto Parts in Milliken, CO. I enjoyed talking to John and his assistant there while my part was being retrieved for me. Now my door opens and closes properly.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I finished up installing the new glass run channel and whiskers on the driver door and reassembling said door parts and refurbished vent wing per Randy 500's invaluable instructions. Low and behold now the door won't lock with the key so it's back out with the latch and again with one of Randy's tips I relieved the door lock pawl with my die grinder, first pic, hard to see the relief with all the lithium grease, and discovered the door latch pawl pin was loose to boot. Since there wasn't enough "meat" to re stake the pin, pic 2, I cleaned up the area and welded the pin to the latch body, pic 3. After reassembly the latch works like when it left the factory 51 years ago and the key works the lock effortlessly. Hats off to Randy500 for the posts he helps us with.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Not today but recently...
Started her up, moving out of garage she dies...
Cranking but no start condition.
Check and she is getting fuel.

Check spark, Non-existent.
Check coil and windings are both primary and secondary are open circuits.

Pull spare coil from tool box in bed, install coil and she starts right up.

Seems to run better than late in the season last year so the coil was probably going bad with an intermittent stalling issue.

Thumbs up Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I'm making a new horn cap for the ramp truck. I have a corvette steering wheel I'm using and the hub, it's the same as the comfort grip wheels basicly.

But I am doing a custom horn button for it. Still need to paint the ring though. Haven't decided what color yet.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Does anyone know what year GM started putting the flat boss on the cab for the courtesy light switches? My 70 has them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

New rims and tyres.
Wheel Vintiques 16 x 6 for the front, 16 x 8 for the rear.

215-85 r16 and 265-70 r16 tyres.

Rides so much better than the out of round 16.5" that were on there.

Just need to drop the rear about 4" (maybe more)

My Disc brake and drop spindles also arrived, I checked it for clearance on the 16 x 6 rim (4" backspace) it is fine.
They will go on very soon, along with a new booster, master cylinder and proportioning valve from CPP.

How hard was it to pull the doghouse off? I have looked for detailed steps online but couldn't find anything. I need to pull mine off to put the motor and trans back in easier. And to clean things up a little. I have an 8 ft garage so the lift will not get high enough to clear the grill.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

Dad's72, I unbolted it piece by piece because I don't have good place to store the assembled doghouse inside. If you can just remove the hood and front bumper, and unbolt the fenders from the cab, it is much easier, however, you will need some extra muscle to move the whole thing after it's unbolted. My garage also has an 8' ceiling, so I built a frame out of 8' 4x4 posts and used a come-a-long to remove the engine. I unbolted the trans first and removed that separately, as the wooden frame would not support the weight of the big block and TH400 trans together. Here is a pic of the frame I built.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

I got my upper bed moldings. They were delivered to my rental property as that's where my truck is stored. But with the ice and cold Im sitting it out next to my woodstove with a nice glass Tullamore Dew. But I'm going to Buffalo this weekend to look at a big block 68 .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter

New hood hinges, the others were shot and even had bolts instead of rivets in a couple spots. That little tool they sell to pull the springs made it easy (plus the college football player is home for a couple of days so I cheated). Also pulled the RH inner fender and the heater box. Some PO had the heater core in upside down, goofy ground wire installed wrong, only half the bolts holding it in as well as a HUGE mouse nest on the inner portion. Also unbolted both exhaust manifolds and found those bolts loose with gaskets behind the ram horn manifolds. Well, at least putting in the correct plug wire stands, shields and new plugs will be way easier!

Started the teardown to hopefully get this puppy painted soon. I'm going to hate not being able to drive it for a bit. But it will be worth it in the end.
