Thanks Low Elco!

I'm heading out to finish cleaning the chassis now.

Maybe shoot some epoxy primer tomorrow.

Don't tell the EPA Nazis. Epoxy primer not allowed in my zipcode.

Tried to order some from Summit but they can't ship to my zip.

I got mine from SPI.
http://www.southernpolyurethanes.com/.
Their epoxy is low VOC and legal in California.
Very good customer service and free shipping.

Thanks Kim.

I think I have enough left over from the tractor to do the chassis

Will order from SPI when I start on the cab, bed , and front end.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

I did a little sand blasting on the chassis on the hard to reach places.

Made a big mess that was time consuming to clean up.

Probably finish whats left with the stripping wheel.

The mods I did to the rotisserie worked great. It spins real easy.

My "free" air compressor is leaking a little at the head. Got a new gasket set from Graingers. Supposed to rain tomorrow so will be a good time to change the gasket.

The brown truck dropped off my new wiring harness and ECU with flashed prom. Also the new MAP sensor, and knock sensor.

I managed to get the chassis into the shop this afternoon. I don't need it sitting out in the rain to rust up again.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

I had to take a break from the truck to finish the landscaping before it rains.

Almost finished with the drip lines. Next spring we should be finished with all of the landscaping.

I got a call from my friend that sold me the muncie. He offered to sell me the engine from his corvette.

I wish he would have called before he sold his 59 fleetside and his 55 cameo.

Anyway the engine is a four bolt main 350 with a crane cam (no specs),
gear drive, camel hump heads, mallory ignition, edelbrock valve covers.

The engine has only minutes not miles on it. Got it for a benjamin.

I can't decide what to put it in.

Thanks BC Toy Chest.

I decided to use POR-15's Marine Clean and then the Metal Prep / Metal Ready
before boxing the chassis. It will inhibit rust.

Did some more welding for my neighbor. Instead of cash I told him he could pay me with stuff out of his garden. He's kept us stocked with tomatoes, corn, and cucumbers all summer.

Hey Roadkill, just finished reading your entire build thread. I can certainly relate to all the distractions in life that take us in many different directions but you seem to manage that well. At least you're making steady progress. Maybe soon I'll start a build thread on some of my projects but in the meantime I'll keep watching and learning from all the many talented folks on this forum. Keep up the good work. IMO you can't beat the 4-eyed TF trucks.

Fleet '66 thanks for the kind words.

I'm trying to stay on it, but I have to admit some of the distractions are of my own making.

Sometimes when you take a little break some new ideas may pop into your head and get you energized again.

Another motivator is my brother in law. He is always asking is it running yet?
He has a finished car and he didn't do any of the work himself. All he did is open his wallet (and his mouth).

I tell him that I have realistic goals like together and running by August of 2014. Metal work completed, and no paint, but together and running.
Anything beyond that will be considered a bonus.

Fleet '66 start a build thread even if it's doing little things. It all adds up at the end of the year.

You are right about talented people on this forum.

I wish I was one of them.

I learn something everytime I visit the site.

Thanks Wheelie. I like the wheels on your truck!

Progress has been slow. House stuff, Wifes car stuff.

Got some engine cradles so I could get some of the engines off of the tires in the engine shed. Takes up less space and I can move them around easier.

Finalized a design for the engine mounts and made some patterns and transfered onto some steel plate. Once the engine mounts are finished I can start on the transmission mount.

I am going with a muncie for a while, but I am going to mock up a mount for a 700 R4 or similar automatic trans while the cab is off. That way I will only have drive line length to mess with when I change to automatic.

Caught something that had me down for a few weeks, but I'm feeling much better now. Ready to get back on it and make some progress.

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

The wifes Monte Carlo transmission decided to fail. I think it's the forward clutches.

We decided to buy a new transmission. It just happens to be in another car.

It's a 2013 RS Camaro (only 35 miles on it).

Now I can get back to work on the truck.

When she gets another car this be mine! These parts will go into another pickup!

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Got the pieces cut out for the engine mounts.
Need some finishing before they are welded, and then after as well.

I can't decide what I want more, plasma cutter or tig welder.

Just read this whole bed. You have a lot of great ideas and I really enjoyed all the work you have done on your 58.... and all your side projects too

Re: Roadkill's 58 Chevy Stepside

Engine mounts are almost finished. Needs a little cleanup work and maybe some reshaping on the side opening.
