Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Patch panels really suck for anything these days, they just don't have the correct feature lines had we had to cut them up pretty good to keep as much of the original feature line as possible on the fender otherwise it just would not be right and most people may not notice these little subtle things but attention to the details is what makes the difference.
Don't mind the large gap at the door, the door skin was a 1/4 inch short so we have fill that in with a small strip, as I said none of the repair panels are right these days. We couldn't use the whole door skin as door handle notch was not stamped correctly and the door handle would have been in the wrong location along with it not being stamped correctly, the handle would have had issues being installed after it was painted if we didnt catch that or we would have had to do a lot of work just to fix the door handle in the right place. So we opted to keep the top half of the original doors. Last edited by 65Custom; 12-19-2021 at 07:50 PM. |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Keeping the drip rails too, had to replace them. fortunately I was able to get a couple of good ones to weld back in place, if you do this be careful and check the length of the ones you have vs the ones you replace mine were not as long as the ones from the donor truck, so we had to make some adjustments to get them to fit.
Also got a dent in the B post knocked out a little looks better |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Yep it has been a while. Mainly having no real good place to work on it, moving in the last year and building a new home and shop, but I have the desire to finish her so hopefully I can keep the momentum going. I have a new shop at the house now 24x30 for working on her so when she comes back I wont have any excuse to not work on her.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Thanks Man, but I can't take credit for the most recent work, that is being done by my best friend, I needed a place to keep it while I was building new home and shop, rather pay him to work on it than paying for storage.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Few more pics of progress. Fitting more panels and finding out how bad these trucks fit together lots of adjustments and shims and rework to get body lines halfway decent.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Bed is on and checking to make sure the body lines are lining up had to add some shims to the cab mounts to get things in line.

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
Nice work. I agree on the fact that these trucks did not fit together that great from the factory so it makes our job that much harder.

Quote:
I bought polyurethane cab mount bushings and I have decided that they may be part reason for the extra cab shims to get the lines straight so I ordered a set of rubber bushings also should help with the ride too, early on when I bought the poly bushings I was more concerned with longevity as now Im much older I would prefer a better ride also to ensure the bushing are the correct size as well |

Re: 65Custom Build Thread
I have Been gathering parts for a while now and I got my trim in this week all of it seems to be decent. I didn't want to pull all the side trim out due to it being tightly packed in a tube, it was little hard to just pull it out where I could look at some of it, also a couple of shots of something to come.

Stake pockets got filled, and filling in the tailgate chain mounts and holes, obviously still a long way to go but a good start
