Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Hey, nice work man! Looks good! I have rectangle stainless exhaust tips too I was going to run through the running boards like yours. I was curious how you mounted them? I was thinking about mounting mine directly to the running board so it doesnt rattle. Love these trucks on the ground!

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I mounted the rectangular tips directly to the U shaped tunnel that I welded into the running board. I added a 10"-12" section of stainless "flex" to allow some movement so nothing cracks. There is about a 3/16" gap between the tip and the notch in the running board to allow some air movement for cooling, it didn't discolor the primer, hopefully won't hurt the paint either. I am going to Locktite the four 1/4 -20 bolts that hold the tips on as they loosened a couple times last year.

Here's a picture of the exhaust pipes, mufflers and tips after I painted them with Barbecue Grill black, not such a good idea, most flaked off, getting black ceramic coating next.

Good idea about adding the flex piece. I learned the hard way after a cracked tailpipe mount, I went back and added a couple of flex joints.

Looks great

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

With the truck painted and the Illinois weather not so good for driving the truck, I'm trying to fix the things that didn't work properly and change some of the stuff I didn't like from the beginning. One of those was the carpet, the truck's red, the interior colors are red and white and the carpet was maroon. I ordered some bright red Daytona Weave (55 Chevy style) and had my interior guy Gary cut, sew and install it. I couldn't be happier, he called the color "hooker lipstick red" but I think it looks a ton better, here are before and after pictures.

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

I like what you did with your remote brake reservoir. Can you post some closer pics and some pic of what you did from the underside?

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Here are a few pictures of the master cylinder reservoir from the top side, the pix from the bottom didn't come out well. I added a picture of the interior put back together with the new carpet. While the interior was apart I added two tweeters pointing up on top of the sub box, what an improvement! I think the component speakers in the kick panel are mounted so high that the tweeters are working better for ankles than ears. the new ones solved the problem.

Your truck came out spectacular!

Would you have a picture of the U shaped tunnel? Planning to go this route with my build and any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: 48 5 Window air ride driver

Donnie Lee, the wheels are Centerline Boulevard, I ordered them polished then decided they were a little shinier than I liked so I sanded them and applied Rust-oleum Dark Pewter "texture" paint to make them look a little more like cast wheels. AD I do not have any pictures of the exhaust tip tunnels (I was getting close to driving it and forgot to take pictures) But I made a crude drawing, basically I had them bent to a height that allowed me to use washers as spacers where I plug welded them to the running boards, they are fully welded to the outside and welded to the flange on the back side, I added the plug welds because the back side didn't have a lot of area to attach them to and even with the flex pipe, I was scared engine movement and vibration may crack a weld.
Take a look and let me know if you have any questions.

Speaking of Columbus, the truck in the middle of the promotional picture looks familiar.

Doug..

Funny, good looking out. The red Camaro next to me is my friends car they built for a customer. That is who reserves the rooms all the time.

I will check the mail tomorrow for my royalty check. It must have been hung up in the mail.
