Post #200! Not necessarily any update, just glad to have the truck mostly together (sheet metal wise, minus drip rails Im installing tonight). In all honesty I didn't think I'd make it this far! Its been a long journey and its a lot of tough work, long nights, stress... but I walk out through the garage to go to work every week day and Im happy with what I see!
I do also apologize for those who aren't picture happy, I just like posting photo evidence of progress.

Time to move onto the doors... told myself I wouldn't go into the doors.. I lied.
However, the new stampings on the door bottoms is soooooo much better than the old ones.

I have personally not seen it myself either. I was checking all over to see what people were doing, and I just didn't want to run kicker speakers or cut a huge hole in the door to put a modern speaker in, just thought it would look out of place. Now I just need a way to mount the speaker inside the door shell, I was thinking of doing studs welded to the backside, but not sure yet!

The studs welded on is what I would do. Nuts mounting from the inside. Then I would put a insulation cover over it for water and to push the sound into the cab instead of in the doors. That's what I did with my speakers in the kicks.https://www.ebay.com/itm/32424943927...Bk9SR-Csw5HVYQ

That sounds like a plan. I doubt the speaker will weigh much, but I will probably make a small structure that incorporates the door frame and the window stop bracket. Thought about doing components, but not sure on where I'd place the tweeter. Maybe same idea, just below the vent window corner, with a small grill grafted into the door as well.

Couple irons in a couple fires this weekend... painted all the column pieces, rear speaker brackets, and started inventorying what I will use on the column new vs original. Learned these 67 columns are a bit different than the later years. Also tried out the dry ice + isopropyl alcohol trick to remove the inner door sound deadener. It actually works really well. Inexpensive as well.

I can't say that I've ever heard of the dry ice and isopropyl alcohol trick before. Would you mind elaborating? I'd like to get the rust concealing crud off the inside of my doors as well.

Essentially I went to my local supermarket (Harris Teeter), bought a 4lb bag of dry ice and two 16oz bottles of isopropyl alcohol, and used a small cooler to mix/break them up. I used 16oz of isopropyl to 4 lbs of dry ice. I chopped it up so it was in small manageable pieces, and would lay the dry ice mix on the sound deadening material for about 10 minutes or so, and slowly chip away the material. It works really well. This makes the material lose its mechanical bond to the surface of the door, and seemingly did not damage the outside paint on the door skin (my goal with this method).

Here's a description from Google: "Adding isopropyl alcohol to dry ice makes the liquid cool very quickly ⏤ the mixture's temperature can reach -90°C (-130°F). At this point, the water inside the flowers, candy, and banana quickly freezes and turns into ice, making these objects 'stoney'."

I tell ya'll, I know I say the weather where I am holds me back a ton, but I swear it isn't an excuse. Last weekend, around 65 degrees. This week/weekend, high of 50ish. Trying to do the painting I need to when I can, but man its hard to do. Like watching grass grow waiting for better temps to paint in.

Got to getting the patina kind of matched. Some water splatter, multiple layers of rust and dirt colored paint, and some rock salt helped a bit. Given the area they're in, I think Im pretty pleased with how they came out. I wish the paint color was a bit closer, but this was so hard to match given each area is gradually different shades, so the paint guy had a hard time getting a good read on his machine. The hood hinges should break it up some though and make it not as noticeable!

Hadnt posted the results of the dry ice mix... very clean. I took outside, blew it all out, and went after it with wire wheels, bristle brushes, and finished with a 80 grit DA with a contour pad. Also replace the door hinge pins. Did they really use plastic bushings from factory? These werent sloppy but I figured why - glad I did now that I found those. Also patched the upper portion of the door, had some rust growth and a small section of holes. Came out pretty well actually, not to be seen anyways so I wasn't too pressured to make it look amazing, just straight.

Fixed the front edge of the door bottom and it came out pretty good. Need to get it mounted to see about the fitment of the outer skin, so I can remove it and get the new one fitted better.

Sound deadener down... Kilmat and Siless 80mil, ran out Siless and put down the excess Kilmat I had from the roof.

Satin clear put down on the firewall, dash, and interior. Came out good! I used the Spraymax aerosol can that has the button for the two part mix. Really impressed.

I've been impressed with Spraymax also. I used the high gloss clear on a truck I recently bought and sold and that was a great product. The satin clear fits the look of your truck very well.
