Re: 56 shop truck build
Well, we fired the engine last night. It had a couple snags, more because of my blind stupidity, but in the end it ran nice and strong. Today will be spent tying up some loose ends under the hood and getting some pipes on it so we can break the cam in. The video is on the wife's phone so as soon as I can get it from her, I'll post it up here

Re: 56 shop truck build
It was exciting and nerve racking kind of night. But I smile every time I look at it knowing it fired up like a champ.

Re: 56 shop truck build
After realizing I ad made a boner move on the location of my case shim on Thursday, we made sure to ankle that job yesterday. Gotta love working on a solid axle, I think it took us 15 minutes to drop the axle, place the shims in the correct spot and torque everything back down. I got the tail lights installed and wired up as well. I just have to I stall the blue dots and figure out why my hazard lights work when the key is on but not when the key is off. That's the only electrical issue on the truck.

Re: 56 shop truck build
My wife was the one welding with rubber gloves. She went from working on cleaning some parts to trying her hand at welding.
The Volbeat trip was a quick one, in 1 day and gone the next morning. Next time I'll give you a little notice Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 56 shop truck build
no real progress to report over the past week. Our car club the Rock City Kruisers held their annual car show on Saturday so we were busy prepping for that. I was hoping to drive the truck but we fell a bit short. There just wasn't enough money in the budget to do any more.
Here is what she looks like right now. We'll be getting back at it this week and try to finalize a lot of things on it.

Re: 56 shop truck build
thanks guys. We're going to bleed out the brakes, tidy up some wires in the engine bay and re-locate the e-brake handle this week. I'd like to have it ready for exhaust and inspection within 3 weeks

Re: 56 shop truck build
I'm hoping with the addition of some bed wood that the ass end will come down a bit, but overall, I'm real happy with the stance of the entire thing. Getting it to look right was very important. I ended up using leaf spring saddles from a 4x4 to gain the extra inch in height in the back end and decreased the front tire size to get it to sit the way I pictured it.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Another great looking Canadian prarie truck - great job. I posted a pic of the bedwood I just installed on my 1949 on the bedwood thread. I acid etched it to give it an aged look............

Re: 56 shop truck build
No picture updates because what we've done would be really boring to look at. But over the past week, we dropped the front axle to install the caster shims properly and bled the brakes. When we pressured up the brake system, it leaked like the titanic. Almost every fitting had some sort of leak so our 1 hour brake bleed job turned into a 4 hour job. But it's done!!! Now I have to install the tranny cooler, hook up the brake switch and install the exhaust before its ready for the road

Re: 56 shop truck build
Try checking at boat used supply or sales shops, don't know about Canada but here in California and Arizona they usually have a few laying around for sale for ski boats.

Re: 56 shop truck build
Does that kind of carburetor scoop filter the air too? That is really neat looking! Maybe having one of those, install it at the car shows, then put the regular air filter back on when actually driving!
