Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Not done yet, but on the weekend I will be fitting my "Spot Light".
I got a NOS bracket of Ebay and a 6" light, nice old one with the correct length shaft, Ivory colored handle. It has the original GE lamp. I think it need a new wire, I pick it up this afternoon. I am not sure where I will wire it from, Maybe through a relay switched from the ignition. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
very impressive engine detail. I sorta have the same setup on my PCV, but was wondering if you used a tube nut to fasten it. Mine has a collar just RTV d keep ing it on

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I used a regular -6 fitting with a nylon insert pushed in the fitting and then installed on pcv and carb. Smoke tested and no leaks. It was a pain and probably 2 hours work grinding on the fitting. Thanks

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
No Pics to show but I finished putting the doors back together with new glass run channels, window regulators, door relays, and whiskers. I'm amazed at the difference, windows are nice and tight now and roll up and down smoooth. And a shout to Randy500 for his spot on instructions on tear down and reassembly of the components.

Got my motor torn down to a short block so I can get the heads rebuilt and replace the iron intake with an aluminum one.

It's up on the two stage cribs I made, not too bad lifting it there in two stages.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I've put about 5000miles on it since bolt off resto so with it up in the air and the suspension is under load. I want to retorque all the bolts, clean, change some fluids, and give it a going over. I have to add some static electricity grounding straps. I'm finishing the wiring to the P/L, P/W and interior light door pins. With the truck being low and me old I'll take any easy way. Maybe some exhaust work.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I bought the 2x4's on Kijiji for cheaper than store prices. It went very easy with it being two stages and was all done with my jack and no blocks on it.

Love that idea to get it up higher off the ground, might have to make my own!
Do they just stack up, or do you have them anchored together somehow?

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Hung the radiator support and bolted on the door and fender . Both OEM pieces everything lined up pretty well even the rocker with a few 5 pound sledgehammer plows on a 2x4 . Came to the cab corner . It was a cluster ###! . It was almost like it was for an extended cab . Had to cut it into 3 pizza slices just to get it to line up. 5 hours I would rather not repeat. Other side is getting a few small pieces.
If anyone is doing cab corners stay away from the CHL brand

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Got a lot done today. Repaired back panel. Finished the door which took way too many days to complete. I thought I was finished numerous times later to find it wasn't straight. Pulled the front and rear glass. Getting closer each day.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I am so out of everyone's league here.
First day of working on my "new" '68. Made a custom gas pedal, scrap metal and parts box bolts that matched the tap sizes. Need to maintain the Bucket Of Bolts theme.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I blew up my engine yesterday.
I guess it was just this engine's time. It's probably the factory 283. It has a rochester 2bbl on it and it smokes like a fiend, tons of blow- by too. I even topped off the oil the day beforehand, but I guess the rest of it was too thin. Regardless, about 12 minutes into my drive down Route 46, the gremlins came a'knockin. Couple hours waiting for the tow, and the truck is back in the driveway, sitting until I find a new heart for it. |
