Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC

Last Saturday I entered my truck in a show at Lincoln Tech College here in Denver, CO. Last time they had Hot Rod TV filming but no such luck this time. It was still fun tho! This was my first show with the truck aired out. Still a lot to do on the truck before I would consider it show worthy but I'm glad to have the Accuair system on with my EDC (engine driven compressor). I hardlined with 3/8" copper-nickel hydraulic line. I'm going to redo a couple of the lines for cleaner bends and I still need to polish it all.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC

I finally got some things done I can post. I've been wanting to put hood struts on for quite awhile now. I considered buying a kit but that's not as much fun as figuring it out yourself.
I was able to use the original brackets that mount to the hood and made the stand-offs for the bottom mount. This is completely bolt on at this point. Which wouldn't normally be so easy but my inner fender wells are cut out, giving me access to put a bolt in there.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC

Got my rear fenders done last weekend. My dad visited for the weekend and gave me the inspiration to get it done. This was 2 solid days of fab, more than I ever expected. I had already cut the inner bed sides for tire clearance but wanted to start the project with welding in mini-tubs to fill in the cut area. Colorado seems to encourage rust a little faster than I'm used to from AZ so I was extra careful to prime the back sides and edges of everything before they got welded in. This copper weld-thru primer is really cool. So it ended up being 3 pieces per side; mini-tub, mounting flange, and full trailer fender to get the width I needed. I also cut the battery box off the frame and re-welded it upright. I was able to clean-up/hide my air compressor relay wires and redo my battery cables. For part 2 of this project I will connect the front and back of the new fenders to the existing bed floor with flat pieces of sheet metal from tandem fenders I bought. I'm keeping the middle of the floor open so you can always see the Corvette IRS. I'm also planning to install sheet metal vertically on the bed sides to finish it off.

Very impressive! 6 years and still going.
Please give us a heads up next time you take your truck to a show I would love to see it in person.
Keep up the great work.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC

Working on front inner fenders. Got the passenger side done recently. Last weekend I wanted to start on the driver side and realized my hood release cable was in the way so I moved it and created an new billet alum handle for it. Now I can get to work on this inner fender.

Finished off my exhaust pipes and tip. I've had this piece for over 3 years just never put it on because I was working on other stuff in the area.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC

Some progress: the bed area and rear suspension are all painted. I tinted Raptor liner with the same silver as the rest of the frame. The Corvette suspension pieces are a charcoal metallic. The inner bed sides are aluminum panels I made out of transit fenders.
The front inner fenders are done and bolted on too. Engine bay is finally finished.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC

good lord! that is one super sick build...respect man!

But where did the exhaust go? cant figure that out.

If I go from picture t picture, then the gastank seems to be in the place where the exhaust runs under the truck

Thanks kikkegek! The exhaust runs under the Corvette differential and under the gas tank. It exits right under the license plate. Here is an upside down pic of the exhaust in primer.

Took a couple pics with better lighting. The bed is complete, just need to touch up some red paint here and there on the truck.

Re: Starting to start starting a C4 conversion on my 84 SWB GMC

Nice work Tag33! I'm a fan of all kinds of these trucks. Mine are the kind that show their 'character' from living a truck's life . But I can certainly appreciate the detail that goes into a truck like yours. The graphics have grown on me for sure and somehow go great with the wheels. I wouldn't recommend changing a thing with those. It ties it back to its history nicely.
