looking good, there has been alot of debate on bag location. I say try em all and justify for yourself. Thats the beauty of building these, its your canvas, paint what want.

Crazy idea... But if 2" is all you need, I would think building a taller set of engine/trans mounts would be a whole lot easier than modifying the oil pan. JMO! That's what I would do anyway.

Thanks Jim and 99. I would have preferred the bags in front of the axle, but with the triangulated 4 link, there just wasn't room.

Billy, Moving the engine up won't help at this point. Pinion angle is already set, and If I move the driveline up, I'm going the have to tunnel the entire cab and re-work all the crossmembers for driveshaft clearance. Buying a pan is much less work.

The dimensions on the gas tank do not include the lip. I think the lip is 1.5". I'll have to measure later.

There's a kit you can buy that comes with the pan, windage tray, pickup tube and screen, dip stick, dip stick tube, gasket and all the bolts. The GM part number is 19212593.

After further measurements, I think I'm going to have to go with an LS Camaro pan. They are 5.5" tall, that will give me plenty of ground clearance. The Hummer pan isn't but an inch shorter than the stock truck pan.

Cold as a well diggers ass in February here today. Heat doesn't keep the garage too warm when it's 10 degrees outside. I did get the rear cross member in, and the tank cross member. I also mounted the air tank, but I was dismayed to see that it was 1 inch offset to the right side. I guess I must have miss-measured. I'll be re-working that this week, can't have the airtank un-centered, it just isn't cool. Here's some pics

Yup. I'm getting used to these injections. The first couple took me out for 3 or 4 days. now I can usually get back in the garage by day 2.

looks like you might have room for a spare tire back there too, up on the gas tank, or am I just seeing things? wait never mind, thats where your pickups are going I'm sure. darn, so much good space right there. your moving right along. Yeah its suppose to be zero degrees all day tomorrow and negatives at night the next couple nights. Luckily I won't be able to be in the garage anyway. spring is right around the corner, can't wait.

Honestly hadn't even thought about a spare. The air pumps are going on each side of the tank, There might honestly be room for a spare. Have to look at it, and decide how I'd be able to access it with the pickup bed there. Should be back in the shop tomorrow.

If you raise the eng up to get the pan even with the crossmember, you'll have 1 nice large trans tunnel. Trial fit on mine right now and it's going to be at least a 1 1/2 below crossmember. I'm not bagging mine but I still don't like it.

Well, stupid me I don't run a spare in my 51' and I have room under the bed for one. I was just gonna use the space for some hidden tool boxes. heck even a doughnut would be better than nothing. I thought about making a spare mount that goes into my hitch in the back and would basically be my back bumper!!! it would have to be a white wall though. that was my other spare option. Well if you can fit one that would be great.

VHT, my pan is probably 1 inch or so below the front cross-member. The Camaro oil pan is only 5.5" deep, that is almost a 3 inch gain. I will barely have a tunnel needed. Just a small one right at the front of the cab I think. I don't want to raise my driveline any more, because I'll have a hard time clearing the driveshaft at full stuff without major surgery.

Mine right now is about 1 1/2 below the crossmember, don't know how close to the road that'll be yet. What I meant was, as deep as these pans are, you'd have to really put that thing up there to even get it even with the crossmember. I'd rather swap it for peace of mind. All I gotta do is watch your build, and see what you have to go through. Your helping me out a lot! Doing a great job.

vht, from my research, the H3 pan will give you about an inch. stock pan is about 8.5" deep, H3 is 7.5" deep, and Camaro LS1 pan is 5.5" deep. At ride height (running board at bout 5" off the ground, my pan is 3.5" above the ground. That is a little close for comfort. I'm gonna spend for the Camaro pan.

Well, got out to the shop today, not even an hour in, and I ran out of gas again That damned 80 cubic foot bottle was new on Christmas eve! I'm going to have to invest in a second bottle, for sure!

I fixed the air tank, it was 1.5" off center somehow. Comes trying to hurry I guess. Perfectly centered now. Got the rest of the rear frame boxed, and all the holes welded. Got the gas tank framing mocked up, then spent the rest of my time cutting steel so it's ready to weld in tomorrow. Made some cool looking fish plates for the C-notches, made the plates for my air compressors (They will be on each side of the gas tank), and assembled my air solenoid manifolds.

Hopefully my damned air line and fitting kit comes in tomorrow, I'd like to see this thing go up and down pretty soon!

looking good, fish plates look cool. My dumb ass bought baby 20cfm tank for my one welder, back when I started out. Its good for just sheetmetal and or if I gotta take my 110 somewhere but other than that worthless. I just got a 125 cmf for 5 years for 100$ lease. Got another place that has 100$ lifetime lease. about 50 bucks to fill that size. So I'm def getting another tank for my 110 and keeping the baby tank for traveling.
