Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
We have paint ... well we started anyway.
Colour is drab olive green off an old Toyota Landcruiser. Think it will suit it with black accents. Another short video |

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
More painting complete.
Will be a little while before the doors are done as the bottom insides of both are shot. Ones full of pin holes located once bog removed. The other has some botch job done and there's no rubber mount holes or drains... it looks like they just welded over the old panel effectively making the inside and outside 1 piece... some people make me mad.... |

Thanks Ogre.
Summer here is lucky to hit 30 degrees as it is, rained all last week but we dont get white stuff here (that falls from the sky at least). If you wanted to bring all my missing parts over that would also help As for the truck..... Windscreen and rear window installed. Visor installed. Trans tunnel bump finished and PCM finally mounted. |

Good work so far!
Your color reminds me of my truck before I stripped it down to redo it. Sometimes I wish I'd redone it in the same Sage color it was. Yours is going to look great! Mine was fugly primer when I bought it. I painted it with Rustoleum satin Sage Green spray cans. It actually held up well for several years.

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
Hopefully for the next week the updates will be steady as I try to nail out the small niggly things... for example, to night I
Sanded down the last guard so I can get into primer tomorrow. Coated the inside of the guards with the stone chip stuff I used in the engine bay Coated the upper radiator panel/bonnet support with stone chip. Completed the battery mount and made a front support Installed the rear led tail lights |

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
I probably should have spent more time tidying up the rear of the cab looking at those dents (lol) ... but ... I really do need to get it all in paint for now.
I will come back and tidy that up later.... (bog and paint is new to me) |

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
Coming along good. What did you use to spray the chip guard? Also what size bolts 1/4" carriage or 5/16" carriage on the 2 inside bolts of the wheel tubs? The ones that go through the short strips? Thanks Steve

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
@57fleetsideC4
My mate has a gun that screws straight on top of the can. Being water based makes for a simple clean up. 1/2" bolt head for the lower inner fender to support brackets is about all I know. 5/16 most likely. Guards all dewaxed and ready for snother primer spraying in my home made spray booth tomorrow... |

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
The gun is called an undercoating siphon feed shutz gun.
1/2" bolt head is 5/16" bolt. Correctamundo. |

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
Thanks QBRacing and dsraven. I have a body shutz gun. I figured that spot would use the 5/16 bolts but the mar k intructions for my fleetside bed has 1/4" bolts going there and if you look at it the wheel tub has big squares and the bed strip has small squares. Thanks for the information. Steve

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
What a crap afternoon.
Not only did I snap off a bolt in the bumper filler but I forgot to remove an already broken one before painting... and they were side by side. Grrr. A short time later and I had drilled the broken bolts out and rather than retap the crap old bolt I just drilled it and put on a nut.... sorted. My son come and took the grill panel away to paint the chevrolet in black (hes a signwriter by trade) so better than me trying it... Lights are all in and hooked up with only 1 small paint chip where the right lamp cover refused to play ball... Then I thought ild finally mount my bonnet latch in the upper rad cover panel only to find I've been sent a 55-57 so it won't fit or work.... grrr I'm going inside for a beer now |

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
The importer forgot to order my door patch panels a while back so I just ordered them myself and added a new hood latch on there and a few other small parts
As for assembly ... The front end is complete and all the lights have been tested I cant believe how good it looks in reality compared to the initial vision in my head... As always .... VIDEO TIME |

Your YouTube videos and all the info you post on this site is so helpful for my upcoming build! I absolutely love your truck. Do you happen to have part number for the headers?

Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
@blown58
I can't find the invoice with the part number sorry. I do remember they are "Speed Engineering" - 1 7/8" to 3" stainless long tube headers, pretty sure they were the camaro ones As for today... I started by blowing fuses so ripped into the dash wiring as it was gauge circuit. Couldn't find anything wrong , put in a new fuse and it works. Guess I'll wait till it happens again to test some more. Also installed the newly made remote brake fluid resevoir. I asked the engineer to put a small divider in it so that if one circuit was leaking I could easily isolate which circuit. I also started testing the prnd321 on the 96 cutlas colum vs the 4l60e trans as I was only able to select down to second. Made some changes to the connector that holds it to the trans, aligned the rod better and it looks like that's fixed and I now have full swing / gear selection.. Re: 1958 SWB C4 Fleetside - NZ Build
Beach Hop 2021 went great. Lots of people commented and pointed at the truck because of the door graphic and just the rumble the engine and exhaust makes. It so doesn't sound like an LS1.
The day before heading down the tuner and I thought we had a problem with the ICV on the Holley throttle body as it wouldn't work properly and after some investigative work we discovered that 2 wires on the ICV need to be reversed to suit the ICV which comes from a Chrysler I think it was. I also made up some temporary decking from the old pool deck to match the side rails I made. I kind of like it ... all number 8 fence wire (or) use what you got sort of thing... Pulled the diff to change the trailing arm bushes and the main mount bushes (hope I got the right kit) and finally ordered the new Lokar accelerator and brake pedal cover. Now I just need to stop stuffing around with the back yard and get into it but winters coming and I would like it somewhat tidy before the rain turn everything to mud. Video for you as always |
