I would choose the house with the 200 foot driveway too! Wow, that cab looks really solid.

Nice progress. It always feels good to get something done no matter the size or complexity of the task.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
no progress, my oldest flew in from phoenix for the holiday and the middle girl is in israel/bahamas for her senior trip, so busy busy.
I did get a deal on some 2.5" extended upper control arms, so instead of using the ART tubular arms I have here I will just extend the stock lowers and plate them for bags. They have the spherical upper ball joints and machined cross shafts, so thats nice.

All nice in comfy looking.
I think no matter what size shop/garage we have, it would end up being that full.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
cleaning up the frame to weld on body mounts and found the VIN. I have taken about 6 s10s down to their frame this year and this is the first I have seen a VIN on one, so I guess they do exist. it was right where everyone said, right under where the passenger door would be.
matches the bill of sale so thats good. got some mag switch type welding magnets, if you have ever had a welding magnet just covered in steel shavings, these are for you, and really its nice to get them in position and turn on the magnet rather than the magnet grabbing everything out of position including the welding table. dead batteries in the welding helmet so I stuck with tacks. having a wire feed issue, tried new tip and its still not feeding right so tomorrow I will pick up another spool of 0.030. The spool in there is at least 7 years old. mocked up also I think I will grab a pressure washer tomorrow and some muratic acid to clean the front part of the frame.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
I have drawings and even jigs made to hand cut the mounts out rapidly, but these were already cut and kylie said something about needing a design change for the front running board mount so I am going to make the design change on this set forward.
I thought about you and your small garage when wheeling the frame around, if you dont have some yet get some wheel dollies, they really make it nice when you want two more inches of space between what you are working on and what you are up against.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
yah Im always so strapped for cash I hardly ever buy tools or stuff I need. I got two of those HF dollies, couldn't afford 4 ahhaha, I then poached the casters off one for my engine stand!!! I said to myself I neeed to buy some dollies asap. also jack stands, I only have 2 that match. I scored two shopping carts from the trash and man they got some nice casters on them. I got my LS engine sitting on the bottom portion of one, prolly taking the casters off the other and putting on my start stand and that way I can get my second dolly in action! Its a looong journey of getting space and tools and fighting weather, but hey no calm sea made a good sailor.

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
check craigslist for industrial carts, I got two, a nice heavy duty one for an engine/whatever cart and the bomb cart with huge sprung 10" casters. I have put my whole family on it and the springs barely move. I didnt pay 80 bucks for both.
if you use wheel dollies and want to move it in and out of the shop over cracked pavement, ratchet strap the wheels to the dolly. experience talking haha. I say the same thing about calm seas, I say it as "nobody ever learned to sail on glass"

not yet, I think I will just tighten the thumb screw today and feed a few feet of wire through and see if it is a surface contamination issue

Joedoh, thanks for showing those magnets. I just ordered two from Amazon and they will be really useful. Yep, my helmet batteries were bad the other day too. Luckily the old helmet still worked.

Is there any difference between a4x4 s10 frame and a 2x4 frame? I know the a frames would be different. I have a friend that wants to put a s10 frame under his 49 chevy. He has a s10 4x4 lined up. Thanks Rich

Re: 49 3600, s10 swap, project boogie
yeah I replaced the windows in the garage doors and now its actually warm in there now. they were broken by a hail storm a couple years ago and it wasnt a big deal when there was just junk in there. my wife may argue its just different junk now...
baldeagle I know the front half of the frame is different on a 4x4, if you plan to keep the 4x4 intact it shouldnt make a lot of difference though. if you plan a 2wd conversion, it might be easier just to find a 2wd frame.
