Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Well, after well over a year of waiting and some snags along the way, the seat is finally wrapped in this beautiful seat cover from member truckseats. My upholstery guy did an absolutely OUTSTANDING job!

Also made the gas fill hole in the cab disappear!

Removed the slider.

and a little more work on the bed.

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Ok, so it seems like i only like to update this every six months or so.

Another big update so ill split it up into sections again rather than try to go in chronological order.

Body work is up first, picking up where i left off

Finished up on the back window

Because I'm relocating the gas tank i had to figure out where to put the fill. I didn't like the look of it being on the bedside and I didn't want to have to deal with putting it in the bed rail so I opted to put it on the bed floor. Went to a local junkyard and found a gas door off of an 90's ford. I got this idea from a member here but i can't remember who

Cut the hole

fitting the door

Welded in

All welded in

Body worked!

Also painted the front of the bed before it went back on

Thanks Mike! I can't take all the credit for the body work, a buddy of mine is helping me out, but I'm definitely learning a lot!

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

The new wheels. Steelies! 15x6 in the front and 15x8 in the back. I had to go with the new wheels because the rallies were 8's all the way around and I was having rubbing issues in the front because of the drop spindles. I'm running bullet center caps and bullet lugs.

Then the bed went back on

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Air Ride! this my favorite part, i had fun installing everything

Tank painted with custom brackets for exomounts. I really like the exomounts but because I bought a bigger tank the bands that Accuair makes wouldn't fit mine so me and my buddy sat down and came up with some brackets.

All the shiny stuff bolted on

Mock up. Most of my fittings and hardware came from Bag Riders I used bulkhead fittings for the pass through the bed.

Plumbed. Ill have to get some more pics of it all done and wired up with my touch box set up. I've since changed the routing of the fill and exhaust lines on the manifold.

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

Fast forward a bit to early September. I had only about a week left to get it all assembled and aligned and work out the bugs before I brought it to Lake George. it made for some long days.

These pics were from just a few days before we left.

Re: '72 C/10 Custom Cruiser Project

So comes the day when we headed out for Lake George. I spent the morning buttoning up some things getting ready to go and we finally headed out. Normally from my house to Lake George the trip is only about 2 1/2 hours even on back roads. Everything started out okay the first hour or so of the journey went relatively uneventful. Then the engine started to bog down like it was losing fuel so we limped to the closest gas station to try to figure out what the problem was. We thought it was a bad fuel pump so me and my dad headed to the closest advance auto to pick up a new one. We put it on in the parking lot and an hour and a half or two hours later we were back on our way and everything seemed to be okay. Maybe 10 or 15 miles down the road we started to have the same problem so we pulled over again to try to figure it out. After quite a while of thinking we figured out that the pick up tube in the gas tank must've fallen off sometime during installation or just generally getting knocked around before was put in. So thinking like MacGyver I stole some of the vent hose from the tank and used it to re route the gas line directly into the fill spout of the tank, cutting out the pickup tube all together. This did the trick and we made it the rest of the way to Lake George without a problem, although it did take us about seven hours to get there in the end!

Here are some pics from when we got to our motel, the sign seemed fitting.

Sitting in the lot

tilt!
