Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
Somewhere there is a photo of a bed with one full length board hinged to access the gas filler. I think the guy used Blum cabinet hinges.

Gauges look great! Just wanted to say I've been following this build and love what you're doing with the truck. Here's the post that shows the flip up slat in the bed. Hope it helps.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
Thanks man! I read through your build thread over on Corn Binder. I love your truck. A buddy of mine has an old Scout 2 with the 4 cylinder. What kind of wheels and tires are those? Also I like your paint scheme and you mentioned that International Stacey David is building. That truck is pretty sweet. It looks awesome just like it sat when he drug it out of the junkyard. But I am kinda partial to junkyard rescues.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
The wheels are 16.5" by 10.5". The have some old 38.5" Ground Hawgs on them. The tires have been siped and are shake your teeth out at about 35 mph. Once you get the truck up to speed the ride isn't too bad...just real loud! Looking for some 37" HUMVEE take offs to replace them.
I've enjoyed watching the Heavy Metal build on Gearz. Would have been great if he had kept the engine a IH and used a DT466. But that Duramax is going to be able to toast those tires. Back to you build, now. Keep up the great work!!

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
I am looking at getting a new complete wiring harness from Classic Truck Parts of America. It would be the alternator setup for the original harness. Anybody have any experience with this kit? I think I will prolly use one of the junction block fuse kits you can get from a chain auto parts store to add my electric fan relay and any other things I might add later.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
Got my pump put back together. Good news and bad I reassembled the pump with components from a used one and got it installed and running. Bad news is that it still has a miss I'm at a loss. I'm thinking about getting new 5 x 12s because that's all I have left that I can think of.

Hi luther . I used the american auto wire kit in my truck. It was the best kit! I cant say enuf good stuff abt it. It was clearly labeled . I wired the whole truck headlight to tail and EVERYTHING inbetween in abt 14 hrs. The dist hook up for the gm hei is just rite for the cummins as well.

Quote:
I've seen the trailer queen show trucks that have the remote-controlled, servo operated bed board that lifts and if I'm honest I kinda roll my eyes at the pretentious-ness of that (strictly my biased opinion). But now with your comment, I'm thinking why not do it without all the remote controlled stupidness and just have a hinged board that doesn't look like it's hinged? I'm thinking the bed strip would be attached to the hinged board and act as the "stop" for the board as well as be where the magnetic (or something) latch would be mounted. I've gotta think about this. If anyone has any ideas about this, I'd love to hear them. |

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
I'd try to do the small board behind the wheel well and just make that one flip up like delmo did with that full board but make the strip flip up like you said. That's how I was picturing it and it won't stop you from filling up the truck if something is in the bed.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
Thanks 6bt. Hope y'all have had a safe trip! This was the harness I was planning on running since I have no future for power windows, cruise and what not.
http://www.classicparts.com/1955-59-.../#.UUZdDDeyLIY Also I got some of those hinges from Lowe's yesterday for $3 a piece. I think I am gonna use the short board theory like y'all said. I won't have the metal strips separating them since I'm going for a more old work truck look. I drove the truck on Saturday and hope to post a video up soon. If I could ever figure out this miss I will be burning Bias ply rubber!

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
That harness looks a lot like the 1st one i tried. I hope its better. I looked at the 1st one for 20 min and thought no way. Put that pos in the box and sent back. I can honestly say I am good at electrical stuff, that harness was not labeled at all . the diagram was a joke . Cheep yellow and blue ring terminals all over. The AAW was twice the $$$ but no way I could have done a whole truck with the other harness in 14 hrs .
I wish I knew who built my 1st harness so I could say for sure . It does look very similiar tho. I put a post up on my page abt the fuel pin . How bad is your miss?

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
It is a pretty significant miss. It is enough to make the engine shake hard. I changed the fuel filter, left the fuel cap off (and I just realized that it is still off and it is raining outside ), and I also pulled the fuel return off to see what was coming out of it and I am getting alot of flow through it. I feel like it is more than it should be.
You can see in these pictures that I realized my old injection pump was very gaulded up. I used all the parts from my new parts pump except for the case. My timing piston was gaulded in its bore so I took some 1000 grit wet paper and smoothed the bore out. Old Used New Used Here are links to the videos. The truck is going slow because I don't have the gas pedal hooked up yet so it was just idling. http://s943.photobucket.com/user/Lut...30ed5.mp4.html http://s943.photobucket.com/user/Lut...30b13.mp4.html Daddy and I also started working on the panel alittle also.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
Its funny you say that abt the dash lights. My american autowire harness came with new connectors and sockets for the bulbs. It looked like too much work tho so i Reused the orriginal ones and shrink butted them to the new harness. Cheater . Lol. Call AAW . They make the connectors. maby you can just buy a pak of em.

Good news. I purchased some instrument cluster light bulb sockets from Rock Auto. I'm gonna use these and get my gauge cluster back in.

Here is the part #
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...398&cc=1326259 When you search for it on Rock Auto search this like this Chevrolet>1956>Truck>3.8L 235cid L6>Electrical Lamp and Socket> Instrument Cluster Lamp Socket Hope this helps. I might end up with them and they don't work. If you wanna wait i'll let you know how they fit and work.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
Thank you, during lunch I stopped by NAPA with a part number I found Sunday (they are closed) and they had one on the shelf. I posted on the main board. It was $7 but I figured I'd pay that for shipping from out of town.

No luck. I think I will have to let a professional do it. All the instrument cluster gauge lights I bought are wrong also.

Re: 1955 12 Valve NAPCO Clone
For whats its worth a diesel guy once told me on the older mechanical engines . You could remove the exh manifold , run the eng and look at the exh ports to see what cylinder is kicking and making a fuss. then swich injectors from that cylinder and see if the miss moves to another cyl. If it moves , injector is ng. If not . Do compression and leak down on that cylinder. If you give it a shot of ether does the miss go away ? Is it even at idle for that matter? Why did that eng come out in the first place ?

My pump is the problem. With an injector cracked it won't even spray out it just spills out slow.
