Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
That Blue Tartan cloth is one of my favorites from the 67-72 rigs.
Parchment belts are probably pretty difficult to keep clean. Like having white carpet in the dining room. They look gorgeous tho.

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
It would be hard to keep clean, that’s a fact. I wonder if spraying a scotch guard would help? Either that, or I would be using them very gingerly!

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
No doubt. I soaked and cleaned my saddle colored belts real nicely. So now the stains REALLY stand out, haha.

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
Theres several things I use for stains. I can get 99% out. But like you said the lighter colors, the stains now just stand out. But that's where the dyeing does help. But on white, nothing will help those, lol.

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
I like doing these 67-72 Belts. Cool lookin belts. These are the Bright Blue. They started out pretty dirty, so they were throughly cleaned & rust removed from the mounts and chrome pieces. The buckle covers were broken, so I replaced those. And they also got new emblems.

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
Whoever you have re-webbing them did a nice job.
You had a good idear. I think I would treat that light a color with Scotchgard if it wouldn't cause blotches. Might be worth getting a chunk of unused new belt material to test it out on.

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
I like the work that is being done to restore these seatbelts. Very nice!
400k+ miles of use have shredded the webbing on the original belts on my 1978 C20. I bought another set from Ebay. These are not shredded, but the inertia reels barely work, presumably from years of non-use. The restorations shown on these pages seem to be for non-shredded belts and for working inertia reels. Is there a fix for either of these problems? Thanks! |

The frayed and shredded webbing has to be replaced. But as long as it’s still in good condition, they can be cleaned. If you have look at all the belts that I have posted, there have been several that show how bad the mechanisms are, and I have been able to get them working again.

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
Thank you for your answer. Do you replace the webbing? What is your cost for this webbing replacement? If I decide to get this done, then I would send the set with the shredded belt but working inertial reels (the originals to this truck.)

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
Before and after on a set of badly faded Mahogany belts. Did the best I could to add color to the faded areas. These were actually a good candidate to be rewebbed, but he was happy with the results.

Re: Restoring OEM Seatbelts
This is an order that has been in the making for quite some time now, but they are finally finished!!
Had a request for a custom color for a 79. The color needed to match his seat and interior parts. So I started off with a tan set of belts, which someone had already painted the retractor covers a god awful teal color🤷*♀️. Cleaned all the old paint off, throughly cleaned and prepped for the new color. Also, all New Buckles, Lap Buckle and hardware was installed when the belts were sent for the New Webbing. Big job that took a long time to complete, but they turned out awesome. Here are the Before Pics
