Also had some last minute upgrades involving the robbed OEM Trico wipers and the EM brake pedal and trim from the spare cab

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Alrighty men of men I'm looking for some solid advice I'm finally back on track finacially I'm grabbing up a set of new tools and have a 200$ Ford 9" rear end in sight will be picking it up next saturday supposedly it is the shorter (width wise) of the rear ends and supposedly there are some disc brake axle setups that can fit my Chevy 5 x 5 bolt pattern is there any truth to this?? If not I can spend the extra but it would be sweet if it was ready to roll. Now what am I looking into for swapping from my 12 bolt to the ford 9" I know I'll need to re weld some new saddles to position it correctly and this is where the rest of this new setup requires further planning soooooo....
I plan on also salvaging a nice shell of 700r4 from the local junkyard gutting all the old innards and having all brand new high end innards installed by my family's long time tranny guy he's a solid mechanic so I guess the question is... I'm sticking with a SB 350 for present and future (possibly ZZ4 next spring) I need to know what year 700r I am looking for in particular so that everything can mesh smoothly together this truck will be completely a daily driver and potentially a long haul runner so what else could I be running into? with linkages gear selection tubular crossmember for tranny driveline??? thanks in advance for any advice or directions to go

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
not sure what kind of product my in-house polisher used probably ran a clay bar on a buffing wheel, roughed it then, used a soft buffing wheel to shine it up

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
In the final of this truck I'll be Looking at a 350 HP 350 SBC with that overdrive 700r4 supposedly they can stillage around 15-17 mpg's with the right gearing. And rumor On the rear end I'm looking at is that it's already disc brake.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
So Would I be going backwards trying to slap a powertrax and taller gearing into my old 12 bolt? I'm still going to have to do a big brake disc conversion later on but I plan on at least 18" custom wheels in the future so I'll have to wait on that till after the wheels
With the ford 9" I was liking the idea of already getting disc along with posi and not sure of the gearing this 3rd member has yet but to be announced

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
Leaning towards the 12 bolt staying put and installing some brand of posi and keeping her a 3:73 for gearing as well as doing some base model disc brakes for the time being (I wouldn't be doing them unless my rear drums were wore out and they are so in discs go)
also will for sure be doing the 700r4 and I am looking at this product just posted has anybody ever used this? I'm imagining this crossmember looking like a sway bar for a tranny mount http://bowlertransmissions.com/p/97/...r4-crossmember

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I have an Auburn Posi, with 3.42's and the McGaughy 13" Big Brake kit that I had under my '76 Blazer that worked great. I've now put it under my '70 GMC trailing arm truck...I can say that the Auburn has been great for pulling the boat out of the water on a wet ramp, and grunting up a few wet hills here and there. And the price was really competitive.

Auburn's have been around a long time. The mustang crowd has been using them for 25+ yrs with great success.

Re: 1972 Chevy p/u NewType Build
I'm already going Richmond gear replacement anyway so I found this package with a posi will probably have to pick up a few parts to finish this package off BUUUUUTT it would all match and mesh with eachother perfectly or it should
