Yeah, I've had a few of the non-mainstream hot rods before. These Chevys are MUCH more fun and EASY!!!

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Thanks!
Got the intake on and accessories too, though the picture doesn't show it all. Quite an ugly intake for such a beautiful engine.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Next up, making some plugs for the EGR and the evap sensor holes. Hopefully the used valve covers I purchased from Ebay will be here soon and I can button it up.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Assembled the engine to the transmission today and got it into the engine bay!!! Several more parts coming in the mail that should be here soon. Next is swapping out the two piece bolt on yolk TH400 drive shaft for a one piece slip yoke TH350 drive shaft to make sure it all lines up, then I can tighten down the Dirty Dingo engine mounts fully and drill the frame for the moved transmission mount.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Engine mounts adjusted, transmission mount installed, EGR block off (1 3/8" freeze plug, plus a bolt on cover, both epoxied in place too), vapor line plugged with a 3/8" threaded allen plug plus epoxied, messed with the ac compressor to see if I could make the stock position work (looks like it will if I notch the frame and I modified the factory bracket a little bit too).

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
I got the 1998 Camaro temp sensor installed. It's a 3 wire sensor where 1 wire will go to the factory temp gauge and the other two wires tell the ecu the temp. Wiring pigtail is not here yet.
Installed the used EBay valve covers. Ordered 16 gauge 304 stainless steel mandrel bends, stainless t4 flange, 304 stainless Silverado manifold flanges, t4 oil feed flange... Hot side mockup will begin shortly.

Quote:
Put together the power steering pump tonight. Aside from needing to bend the return line a little, it bolted right up. Started on the wiring tonight as well. Trimmed back the fuel gauge wire a bit and reterminate it. Starter wires need a couple of feet removed too. Then run power to the tank area for the pump. Then add the engine harness and ecu. Getting closer!!!

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
why not mount the headers like that now and build your y pipe and turbo flange. then just run the exhaust down from the turbo flange. Then when you get a turbo the header work is done.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
That's not a bad idea. You could buy a core turbo for mock up for almost nothing and get it plumbed and make a "jumper" pipe till your ready. Then you could always send the core out to be built.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
I've got the piping coming already, so that's most likely what will be done. I will trim off the EGR tubes and patch them up, then start with the routing.

I got the EGR tubes cut off and patched. I got my flanges and mandrel bends in stock now too.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
I started piecing a few things together for the exhaust. If I were to try to do the hot pipes right now, I'm just not confident about placement without having the turbo in my hands, so a temporary conventional duals will be used until the turbo install starts later this year.
I had to clearance the passenger frame rail with a few small arcs. Driver's side was close, but no cuts.

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Fuel pump bolted to the frame, grounded, power wire ran to the front. New gas lines bent, bolted to the frame, ran up the firewall. Starter installed. Rerunning many many wires...

Re: Project Mr. Green Jeans (now 5.3 LS turbo build!)
Keeping at it. Wired the fuel pump up to the battery for a quick test to make sure fuel was getting to the front (success!). Fixed the broken vacuum port for the power brakes and T'ed over to the vent control ball for the HVAC control. Rewired the feed to the starter/alternator/ground and tested turning it over (success!). Next is connecting the fuel rails and throwing the ECU/harness into the engine bay and start connecting things.
