Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
I would like to cruise this weekend but work is getting in the way! I'll post a few pics of the engine bay all the wiring is complete except for the TAC module and harness need to make hole in firewall a little bigger, radiator and hoses are in, need to get anti-freeze in and that should complete the engine. Will need to cut clearance in frame rail near P/S exhaust manifold and get to exhaust shop to build a new Y pipe with the Flowmaster 2 1/4" to 3" collector and that will finish that. and then we can cruise!

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Wow, your truck looks awesome....nice job...congrats on the swap!!!! Wish I had the guts to freshen things up like that.....I love the gunk and aluminum paint. That makes it look really sweet. Did you just gunk/wash your parts and then just spray it. What kind of paint was it?

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Small update: All that is left is the exhaust! Just waiting on a break in work (12hrs a day 6 days a week) for a friend to tow it to the shop. Will post video once I get the exhaust finished. Started it several times just to let it run and lub the internals, been sitting for about 6 months. Seems to run strong, good oil pressure (45-50) good throttle response. No knocks, smoke, or other troubling thing, so it should be good to go!

Right now I have a stock Y pipe going into a 3" Cat into a 3" inlet dynomax muffler 2 1/2" tail pipes. I liked the look of Dennis's so I bought the Y pipe from Summit which is 2 1/4" inlet 3" outlet, have a muffler shop bent 2 new pipes coming off the exhaust manifolds into the Y collector and weld into the 3" Cat. Dennis also said it had a good sound. I'm still thinking of the S & P headers with true dual exhaust just don't have the $$$$$ right now. Maybe later.

Sorry Buddy but the only video camera I have is on my cell. I will have to get my kids show me how to upload it to the forum. OK so I am a little slow when it comes to all this fancy stuff!

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Hey guys it's been a while but I have been making small progress, still have no video sorry. My question is I have 2 wires from my harness that were tagged brake switch, can I wire them both into the same brake light switch? one is for the locking torque converter and I am not sure what the other is for. I have to recalibrate my tack for a 4 cyl engine and wire the check engine light and get it down to the exhaust shop. I have backed in and out of the garage so the tranny seems to engage well. The one thing I am very sure of is this is not my dads 305 2 bbl!!!!!!!!!!

White - To the brake light switch (white wire on truck, 12v + when brake pedal IS PRESSED) Purple - To the other brake switch (assuming you have one), for the TCC (purple wire on truck, 12v + when the brake pedal IS NOT PRESSED, open when the brakes are pressed) I'm not sure what to do if you don't have the second brake switch, the one for the TCC. You might be able to add a second one right beside the brake light switch like the newer trucks have, not sure what to say with out being able to look at your setup for that year.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
i just looked at mine and 1 (purple) is for the torque converter and the other (blue) is for the cruise control. your may be different but thats what i have.
i do know the 1 for the tq converter has to have power when the brake pedal is not pressed. when it is pressed the 12v signal has to stop creating an open circut. good luck man! Bob's too quick on the draw!

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
On mine (LT1), I used the original brake switch, and they spliced the white wire to a relay for the TCC. Whoever swapped teh engine in my truck originally used a Painless harness; their installation manual was a huge help repairing all the wiring butchery going on. Try going to their site and downloading their manual. It is at least another reference.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
Thanks guys. Bob do you have a pic of the two switch setup? Is this a bracket that I can get off a truck with Cruise Control? I took it for a ride yesterday just around the block and it ran OK just not what I expected. The trans fluid is foaming, it is full so I don't know what is causing it. I still need to finish the exhaust. Will try to post a video today.

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
make sure the vent on the top of the tranny is open... i took off my vents because there was too much pressure needed to open them.
does your tranny make a whining noise at higher rpm's? or maybe the torqu converter? mine is but i dont have a dust cover on yet. just wondering...

Re: 79 GMC Sierra LWB 6.0L swap
my buddys brother said to leave it off. the tranny need to get pressure out also. those valves are only letting air in... i was bummed out about it. he said if anything, use a differential check valve.
