You need a specialist who knows his stuff and does the approval so that the authorities don't shut down your car, hard times for Roder. And I'm fascinated by the 90-year-old technology.
I was all on-board for the new Burtz motor. We went to a Model-A National convention in June & he was one of the speakers. What I didn't expect was that despite the engineered updates, the motor still made no more power vs an original. I'm not spending >$6500 for a non original Ford set-up that made no more power vs the 90yr old babbit bearing 3-main motor currently in it.

Heck, a bone stock 305 out of a late 70's GM car was double the power @ a fraction of the cost. Same w/the trans gearing. Later model stuff has much better gear splits & synchonizers @ a lower cost.

We'll keep the Cabriolet close to Oe (OE block, Brumfield hi-compression head, FSI 12v ignition, '39 synchronized 3spd, Mitchell OD). If I find a coupe... V8 w/a 5spd.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

I don't want to afford a Burtz motor, it costs around €12,000 assembled in Europe, no way. The original engine, rebuilt with new bearing shells and gaskets, different cylinder head with 6:1, camshaft, carburetor and exhaust manifold, should put out 60-70hp, enough for 50-60 mph on small country roads. I dream of road trips with overnight stays on small country roads, quite comfortably. We will clarify that in the autumn. Sure a little flathead or a 289, I'd even have that lying around, that would be the easier way and a lot cheaper, I'm tempted to build the car with a 4Banger, It's gonna hurt my wallet

Done, the Hood is now painted, I sanded the mistakes wet and polished them again, there are still light scratches from wet sanding in the neon light, you can't see any of that in daylight, let's see if I can fix it.

Nice. You're making some good time getting the sheet-metal from old to new.

You really do knock iy out the park Harald.

Looks beautiful.

Just to hijack the thread a bit….

My friend Dennis built his 66 on a 2015 Nascar truck with all the bits.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

It goes on, I wrote that the Hood still had fine Scratches from wet sanding, it didn't let me rest, it didn't get better with polishing, I wet sanded it again with 1500, 3000 and 6000 and then polished it once, now I am satisfied and will polish the hood when it is assembled. At the moment it's very sluggish, my mom was sick and we were always driving back and forth, I had promised my wife to help remodel her sewing room. But I started with a side panel of the truck bed.

Annoying is the quarter panel doesn't fit, the flange edge is about 50° wrong, which I had to correct and the corners don't fit properly, that was also adjusted.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Rian.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Thanks for your kind words, I agree, it's annoying to adapt the bad parts, but there are no alternatives, we all manage to build awesome trucks out of them over and over again.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

It's slowly Progressing, I had to make a new Spacer Strut, because where the Strut was welded to the side part, the Wheel Arches are also rusted through, so Patches are also needed.
The Quarter Panel is Welded in, the weld seam I lead filled this time, well.... the rest was smoothed out with "Lead" on 2K Epoxid Basic.
Now I can put Epoxy Primer on it tomorrow.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

The Hood is assembled, I had to exchange the Hinges for new ones, the old Hinges pushed the Hood up, after it was closed, now everything fits.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

It could almost be a model.
Today I wanted to sanding the primer, it hasn't dried through yet, maybe it's a bit too thick, tomorrow I'll put the infrared heater over it.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

Today there was a Setback..... I put the Infrared Heater over the Panel. After some time there were Bubbles on the edge of the Bodyfiller, the Temperature was 50°/ approx.125 degrees Fahrenheit. This happened in 2 places, I could simply peel off the areas with the spatula. The rest was fine, something was wrong with the hardener and filler. I started all over again and filled with new Bodyfiller the spots.
#@€#% happens.
Better now than later.

Unfortunately as you say….. this happens.

And rather now, than later in a year or more.

Good luck with correcting it.

Re: A '62 has to get back on the road

I'm sure I made a mistake when mixing the Hardener and Body Filler, so today we made something nice for it.
My Buddy Sold his 60 Apache to Hamburg and took it to the Buyer, I drove with him and took it back, nice Road Trip and great Weather.
