Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Well, I have a mechanic friend that is going to change the cam out on the crate engine Wednesday. Also me and dad are going to pick up the transmission Wednesday. I've got 4 weeks till I have to vacate our shop to the new one and I don't want to have to tow so it's gonna be running in 4 weeks.

I had all of my bolts laying out NEXT TO THE PART THEY CAME OFF OF but somehow someone moved everything around. Now I get to spend $80 on a complete SS ARP bolt kit (kinda glad, got some bling bling now).

Having some problems with my crossmember mounting. The e-brake setup is in the way. So I'm going to chunk that and go with an 84+ e-brake system that runs down the drivers side and crosses over at the axle.

Hopefully I'll get enough money from Christmas to finish out my interior as well. Gotta get some door panels, heat insulation, and flooring. Planning on the MIP mat LMC sells. It's a polyvinyl mat instead of rubber. Seeing the lenghts my parents go through keeping their carpets clean, I don't want to mess with it.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Sure here is one. The bracket that allows the line to crossover to the passenger side is right where I need to put my crossmember. The rivit that is on the side of the frame (not the two on the bottom in the picture) is one of the front cab supports. The crossmember needs to be installed right under it pretty much.

hmm interesting...My parking brake doesnt work but all lines seem to be there...Also there is a wire that I believe attaches to a mechanism on the cross member that isnt attached but i believe is related to the brakes

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Picked up my new transmission today! So excited I forgot a picture. Funny story though.

My transmission mount was previously used as an exhaust mount. When I had the new exhaust put in they used a torch to break the mount off the transmission. Turning in mine as a core, they went to transfer the mounts and looked at my jagged torched mount and gave me the most quizzical look like "WTF is this". I ended up telling them the story of the exhaust mount and they thought that was really funny, even offered me a free mount. I already have a poly mount at home that came with my engine mounts though.

Time to go hunting for the rest of the week though!

Waiting for some bolts to come in. Need to also get an 84+ brake system, tranny dust cover, and new passenger inner fender. Hopefully drop engine in the next week or so.

Exhaust buttoned up with clamps, once it's running it will be welded.

Yeah, I've been fighting it for a week trying to get it started. Almost burned my eyebrows off several times backfiring flames. I reversed the dizzy 3 times thinking it was off but turn out it was only 1 tooth off the whole time!

Yeah, the front end is jacked up, but after I throw the hood on today I might take mine for a little joyride. Been almost an entire year since I got to drive it much.

Re: 77 Silverado Build thread

Not much to update.

I pulled the rear brakes apart to find the cylinders leaking and the brakes worn down so much they weren't engaging. So I got it up to a shop and had the re-build the back brakes. Stops better now but the front end still needs work.

Also was able to get a new radiator and went cruising just a little. I love this engine and tranny. Sounds great at idle, is louder than any of the new camaro's I've come across, and takes off like a bat outta hell on the throttle and shifts quickly. My kind of truck. Only downside is it vibrates alot (cam and poly engine bushings) and now my doors rattle because I don't have door panels I can live with that though
