Re: 68 project

Looking good Larry. I read awhile back your switching to a 700r4. I wish now I would've. Sucks cruising at 3100 Rpms.

Re: 68 project

3:73 27" tall tire. 3000 was around 62 I think. I used this web site

http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Figured out I could go with a 700 and 3:08s and still have a lower first gear. But cruise 70 at 1800

Re: 68 project

^^ I'll chime in on this. My last truck had a nice lil 350, 700r4 (with Bow tie OD lockup & stock convertor),3.42 gear and 28" tall tire and the truck hated 65-70mph. It shifted in and out of OD. I changed the gear to 3.73 and it was perfect. 2100ish rpm at 70 and mpg went up to 18. Just my experience.

I will be using a 3.42 in the new truck though (468/700r4 & 28" tire will be happy with the lower rpm in OD).

Re: 68 project

^^^That'll be 2300ish rpms in OD. That's very doable.

Re: 68 project

As long as that 700 holds up hahahaha. I found that pic I was looking for. This was real close to your build. Same tires in the rear. 400 sbc 4.10s turbo 350. Truck would hook and go. 7:90s 1/8 mile.

Glad to see I could help motivate you to get back at your build As you can see my build thread started quite a few years ago, I am really into it now as I have a place to work on it and I am seeing progress plus all the support I do receive from my wife on this. Good luck and I will follow yours along as well. You have a build thread ?

Re: 68 project

I should, I have quite a few pictures through the stages and a lot of major bumps in the road. Very similar trucks to start with gmc step 400 sb 200r and I'm all about old school!Keep up the good work.
