So just dry fitting my trans mount and I could of swore someone told me that it would line up with the holes on the frame. Bit of coarse the don't , no biggy I can drill holes. [IMG]http:/ [/IMG]

Not really truck related, but motor related. On my.77 vette it's got an older one piece Holley. It's been rebuilt the motor has a rebuilt block lunati cam so I guess it's a mild built 350. So question is if I romp on it from dead stop it Boggs out and even has died before. But from a rolling start or just cruisen and I romp on it all is well.

Do yall think I just need a new carb? I think it's dumping way to much full in the carb, it gets like 4-8 mpg and just smells of fuel

4 mpg is a big problem 8 - 10 mpg is normal for hi pro but you say it's mild so it should be 11- 18 depending on how hard you drive it.
If you are smelling gas that could be dangerous if it's a gas leak. I would check everything to make sure there's no gas leak then yea I would look into replacing the carb.
I would pull some spark plugs to see how they look and look at the tail pipes also , the should be grey if it is tune correct.

Would it be the carb that's making it stumble from a dead stop to romping on it? I was told to maybe change the jets on it but I've just read a lot about the older one piece holleys and they say they went all the great. When and if I buy a new one should I upgrade to electric choke?

In regards to your carb, a lot of things can be adjusted/changed to remedy the initial stumble. I know that holley makes different cams to increase/reduce quantity of fuel and when it is sprayed into the carb, and that bolt with the spring on it can be adjusted to drive the accelerator pump later/earlier to help. Another item that can be changed is the power valve, as they make units that open at different vacuum levels and you may not have the correct one if your camshaft is too lumpy. Also, if your floats are set too high fuel can be dumping in at an idle......The list goes on, and on.

Ok so really annoyed and need advice. I just bought an edelbrock 600 and for it all hooked up. It idles better don't smell like gas and cruises like a dream. But still the stumble if I romp on it from dead stop. I'm not out to drive this tho.g in the ground or anything I would just like it to perform when I want it to. So what else could it be?

So when we put the new carb on we also added a plastic inline fuel filter. And that little filter might have solved my problem. It's showing that it's not getting a consistent amount of fuel, the filter is not full and has a miss surge of fuel every few seconds. Most of the time at idle if u just watch that clear filter it never gets past half full and sometimes almost goes empty. My mechanic said its my fuel pump going bad and that's what causes the stumble if I floor it from a dead stop. It's not getting a consistent amount of fuel to it . It slurps it all out then stumbles while more gas is on its way.

Does all that sound right?

Got some new goodies! TCI trans pan and lokar filler tube. So Wats yalls input on me putting a 700r4 behind the 327 I got. It's suppose to be pushing 375 hp. Some people I talk to say do not go with that trans, and some say it's the best. Of coarse I already have it so I'm keeping it just want yalls input.[IMG]http:/ [/IMG]

the 700 should be fine. as far as trany lines go do you have a remote cooler or ran through radiator? if trans cooler you can use rubber but it must be for tranny fluid not gas or what ever. if ran to radiator should be hard lines

Well I installed my trans and was going to bolt up my flywheel to the torque converter and realised the bolt holes didn't line up. I called the engine builder and he said he sent the wrong flywheel with that torque converter so he is going to send me the other one this week. Pretty annoying. My engine hasn't been primed yet, but is there an easy way to turn the flywheel to line the wholes up? I have all the spark plugs out to.decrease compression. I was told not to turn the single bolt on the front of the crank cause that May break off. Any thoughts?

Well we got the flywheel situation figured out. My engine builder told me to make sure the engine is on tdc when I'm done turning the crank to bolt up the flywheel. I've been reading up on how to determine if it's tdc and so far I found out u can just stick your finger in the #1 spark plug hole and feel for the piston to hit top. And that's tdc. Is that a way anyone has tried?

I use a pencil in the spark plug hole, not the eraser end. Then pull the valve cover to ensure both valves are closed (for the compression stroke). At least that's how I was taught in the 70's... I've used the front bolt and have never broke one, especially with the plugs out.

Ta2Don is right. Yoiu could also watch the harmonic balancer when you turn it over and get the timing mark to lined up zero with the tab over top the balancer (TDC). It will either be on #6 or #1. check that both valves on #1are not compressing the springs. If not, you are on #6, and need to give the crank another revolution to get to the timing mark again, and you will be on #1. You can install the distibutor now if you wanted. As far as the bolt breaking off, I have never heard of that. It is a 1/2 inch bolt, and I have done valve sets and such on high compression big blocks without any worry of breaking the bolt. Horse hocky. Just remember to take the socket and breaker bar off the bolt before you start the engine.
