Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

I'll have to take a look tomorrow to see how many I have at the shop. If I don't have enough, I can just order some more parts laser cut. Are you wanting bare steel or powder coated?

I am confused. I went to the boneyard today to source/price all the parts to use with these brackets. I did not find any 94-97 Camaros with rear disc brakes....all of them were drum?? Were rear discs an option on these years? I did run across a 99 Camaro that had rear disc brakes, but did not pull the trigger because of the years you specified here.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Rear disc brakes were not standard equipment on the '93-'97 F-bodies. I believe they were typically found on the Z28's. The '99 Camaro has a different caliper and rotor than the '93-'97's.

The 93-97 Camaro used very small single piston front calipers. I wouldn't use it. The fluid volume is probably too little to work properly with a larger D52 front caliper in a 4-wheel disc application. Look at the 98-2002 Camaro master cylinder instead. They used dual piston calipers up front with much more piston area so the fluid volume would be more appropriate.

The 93-97 was Z/28, Trans Am & Formula specific with it as an option on V-6 cars.

The 98-up stuff was on all the cars V-6 or V-8. Same for the front brakes. The rear on them uses an internal drum brake inside the brake rotor for the parking brake so the calipers are different with no provision for a mechanical parking brake in them. The rotor thickness is different too so they would need spacers to work on the thinner rotors the kit is designed around.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Received my brackets for the 93-97 Camaro brakes and they look great! Question about proportioning valve. I am replacing my M/C and Proportioning valve due to prior leakage. I bought a new M/C for 78 corvette and wonder if I should buy the proportioning valve for the same, go with stock proportioning valve or I did find one on ebay that says it will work for 67-87 trucks disk disk although they refused to answer my question when I asked if it would work for this application. If anyone else has done this swap with sucess input would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

You can try the Vette prop valve, but you may or may not be happy with the brake bias. Anymore I recommend the Wilwood #260-11179. It already has an adjustable valve in the rear circuit, so you can adjust the rear brakes to how you like them.

I would think a combination of the two, since the Camaro cables will fit the bracket on the calipers. Then you will likely need to connect/splice those into your original truck cables. Alternately, you may be better off with made custom cables once you figure out the required lengths. If you don't have someone local that can make up the cables for you, I believe a couple of the suppliers that specialize in brake line tubes, can make them up.
I installed the kit from Captainfab, and it works great. I resolved two issues with the installation, Combination Valve and Parking Brake Cables
1. Combination valve - I used the factory 68 brake light switch, no proportioning valve and no metering valve. No metering valve needed with 4 wheel disc, and so far works great with no proportioning valve. I installed a master cylinder for 4 wheel disc so as not to have a residual check valve in the outlet of the master cylinder, which is only used on drum brakes. My truck started out as a 4 wheel drum and I had previously installed 72 disc brakes.
2. Parking Brake - My truck is a short bed, however the long and short bed trucks use the same rear cables, so my method should work for all trucks. I was able to use the Camaro factory rear parking brake cables and the factory Chevy intermediate cable. I moved the intermediate cable from the trailing arms to the inside of the frame, connecting to the Camaro cables. I fabricated new brackets for the front of the rear cables and made links to take the slack out of the intermediate cable. The photos show how I did it.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

That is correct. I do not make any rear disc brackets for either of the 14 bolts. That 14 bolt is not original to your '77 C10. A '77 C20 would have a 10.5" FF 14 bolt, but a '77 C10 would have a 12 bolt.
