The engine building process seems like such a mind boggle with so many choices of things and directions to go..... and if you change one thing you have to look at all the other specs because they dont make this to fit that... WTH????

Just going BIGGER is not always better..... Im learning that "Combination is King"....

There are so many applications for just pistons and matching them to the rod length to get the right compression ratio and going bigger bore I found gets me LESS!!! again WTH!!!!

back to the drawing board....

Are you having a hard time finding ding pistons? Contact Race tech. The guys who own it use to own JE pistons. They will custom make you a piston to your specs for about the same price as a SRP piston. I had some made for a 406 I was building. Nice pieces.

No problem finding them.... having a hard time swallowing the COST of building CHEVY **** nowadays!!!! it used to be cheap to build Chevys thats why everyone did it. Ford Cammers and Dodge Hemi's cost a ton to build. I guess with all the TV shows about car building stuff has gotten the industry back going again to the point that blue-collar folks cant do it anymore, its becoming a white-collar hobby only.... Ive done machine work, I know that 1 piece costs alot to build.... but when you 'produce' 10,000 pieces the costs are suppose to go down.... so why are 'good' pistons still $80-$100 each????? and its even recycled aluminum that I drank out of and got sent to china to build the plugs?????

I think Im gonna look back at going with a supercharger, because with all the added costs of pistons, rods, etc. I can just use what I have and just bolt on some BIG HP.....

Contact Race tech. They are cheaper than most and are mostly custom pistons. They are made In the USA as far as I know. I know it's a sbc but I paid $600 for custom spec pistons and metric rings for a 406 I was doing. SRP shelf pistons alone were more than that.

Yep I did get the playhouse finished on Christmas Morning (cutting it close). But nobody got paint on any of their little fingers!!! So it was a hit!

Hi Guys - I saw in very well produced build thread by "99 to Life" that he was putting costs and places where he buys things. So in an effort to put together a supplier list of people that are out to 'support our hobby' and not just their own wallets I will also post my costs and where I got them. (I hope this isn't against any forum rules).... I am all about capitalism at its finest, but there is a line at which consumers are just being taken advantage of.

We all do alot of shopping and time spent finding the best prices, why not share them?

I'll start that list soon!

Ive got some in mind, working with a local wheel shop that Im trading some electrical work for to hopefully get the pricing down to where I can afford them! Its an MHT product (Foose).... and may be a first on these trucks.... not ready to choose yet.

Well I got a few more new parts to be playing with but no wheres to get them on yet. Got a CHAMPION CROSS FLOW type radiator and an MESIERE electric water pump to play with the engine placement, found out where it needs to be. I want to do a custom radiator support that will include mounts for new inner panels Ill be making too. Something that looks like this:



The radiator is a little wider than the original support sheetmetal so I think Im going to remove all the original steel stuff and replace it with aluminum anyway. It is lower than the support top and thats what I was looking for in order to put a surround over the top of it and blend it into the inner panels.

So heres the latest pics

With the radiator set and the pump, now I know where the motor needs to be so Im making new motor mounting plates to move the block forward 1.5" and that will give me the room behind the motor to not have to cut the firewall.

The old "V" is the original mount and the larger one moves it forward.


Ill post up more when I get everything welded up and ready to go in.

The billet ones are real nice but as mentioned they cost a lot more for something you won't see at all.

Yep they are costly.... wish I was building this for somebody telling me MONEY IS NO OBJECT!!!! Because nobody will ever pay you full retail for what you put into something...

That is why I like when I get to build for a few high ends I deal with, they want the best and done right which feels pretty nice but for the rest of us or my low $ customers then we think about how important each parts is..all still fun though especially when it all comes together..

Well nothing is going to be low $$$ on this build by any means. No ebay junk chinese stuff here.... I would put Energy Suspension or Prothane parts on any car or truck being built as they are quality parts and serve a definitive purpose.

The Chris Alston stuff just takes it all to another "BLING" level ( I LOVE BLING!!! ) that the Richys like to show off to their Garage Drinkin' buddys.... or at a car show after its taken off a TRAILER!
