Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
ok finally all panels in paint , hurray!
not bad really 14 days ( part time , ie few hours per day.from this to this next comes the time consuming part of ageing the paint to look like these bits and one more of the whole truck, oh, and we have brakes now so went for a short test drive down the road and back, maybe only 400 yards, but all gears work, so chuffed with that. next up is completing the air ride install.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Thanks Martin., I'm really pleased how it's developing, The key is a little bit every day, even just 15 or 30 mins, if that's all that is available to clean or paint something. I'm probably putting in an average of 2 hours per day at the moment. Also my motivation is I'd like Mark to be able drive it before end of September.

When I built this thing, http://retrorides.proboards.com/thre...ompleted-build it took a helluva lot of hours when I totalled up the total hours, but there is a lot to be said for an hour before work if you suffer insomnia, or the hour before the missus gets home. I am not on pace with my truck at all, but I also am forcing myself to respect my marriage fully. And do not want to hate the truck when that last bolt goes back in. Today I am just petrol cleaning stuff like the inner fenders to remove all the underseal and old oil etc. Your pace though, I maintain, is inspirational.

I'll be honest, I couldn't keep this pace up for long if it was my truck. Just keen to get Mark driving it and see the grin on his face.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Bit more done tonight, started to mock up the air ride compressor, valves and tank.
Also ordered some replacement brake drums as the current ones are worn too much, the brakes work but are not sharp enough unless the pedal is pumped. and on measuring the drum thickness they are paper thin! Wondered why they where so light lol!

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Another productive weekend on the truck. 2 full days and I'm aching everywhere. This truck is fighting me, I don't think it wants to wake up from it's slumber, Nothing seems to work first time or takes 3 times longer than planned. Anyhow on to the progress.
Remember that bent gear lever a few posts back? I cut it back to about 6" long and made a new rod it it and taller and cut down an old shotgun handle to make a pistol grip gear knob. Air tank, compressor and valve mocked up on the truck, still have front air bag mounts to manufacture, but for now held in place with clamps. and the weekend finished off with it's first move under it's own power. Click on the images below for link to a two short videos

Those narrow streets remind me of Japan when I had my Dodge van and 55 Belair. Maneuvering the big American boats can be FUN in certain situations!

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
No pictures, but a bit more progress this week. I was having problems with the brakes, too much pedal travel, although brakes would lock up good. Did some rough maths and realised the twin master cylinder was too small at 7/8" bore to gain a firm pedal. Ordered a larger one at 1 1/16" and even though ive only part bled the system the pedal feels much better. Hopefully complete the bleeding tomorrow and start the final install on the air ride.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Another good day today. Mark came round and we made good progress, think it's the first time we haven't added anything to our list!
New master cylinder all bleed and brakes adjusted, nice firm pedal now. Had on old 4 barrel air filter, so modified it to fit the single barrel, not pretty , but functional. Rear air bags fitted for the fine time and air lines run along the chassis and clipped in place. All wheels painted, those observant of you will notice there are only 3 in the photo, the 4th was still in the paint booth drying (AKA front Garden). Front bumper, stripped, primed and painted. and that was the end of another day. its good to look back and see the transformation in just a few months.

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
BIG day today MOT time!!!!!!
UK Car need an annual inspection and for a fresh USA import it needs an MOT before applying for a registration plate. few last minute checks this morning and backing off of one of the rear brake drums that was binding. Then off to the MOT station, stopped on route as the passenger door flew open going around a bend and throw tool sand paperwork out the door!! MOT chappy very impressed and his 2 friends, mobile phones out and taking photos, you know it's good when that happens And the very important document Mark going for a little drive https://youtu.be/uHN4mDCigiQ Next up a few little tweaks to getting it running sweet whilst we await the UK registration application to be processed.

Can see the video now. Thanks. Question, maybe I missed it in the reading. Did you turn the backup lights into turn signals?

Re: Uber Cool's 1963 C10 LWB Fleetside in England
Yep sure did. Didn't want to add extra non period lamps. So neatest way was to convert the back up lights to keep it UK road legal.
