Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
i think we're all in trouble in a rear end hit as most of us moved our tanks out back of the axle
ralph nader can kiss my butt no inspections here in michigan, but a lot of states have various degrees of inspections mostly for emissions i tagged my truck before i started modifying it just to be sure i went back and looked at your notch, more of a frame-make-over than a notch. looks good. and yes your being picky

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
dang, i forget i have to explain these americanisms to you aussies
ralph nader is a consumer/automobile safety advocate, wrote the book ''unsafe at any speed'' which basically killed the chevy corvair i (mistakenly) thought he was involved in the ford pinto exploding fuel tank recall too he has also run for president of the usa in every election since 1972

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Update time...
Been working on bodywork alot got the rear fenders in high fill and got the doors gapped. The doors were in very bad shape. Gaps were along way off. After speaking to classic parts they decided to give half my money back and the hingers were faulty, and i had to fix them. i also wanted to make more room for the bags as they were a little to chose to the bed sides. and finished. AND a little SNEAK PEAK at the wheels i got and some body work.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Got all the rear bed in primer. ready to be blocked and throw colour on once im ready.
Spoke to my painted and he REALLY wanted all the red gone as he didnt trust it. So i have stared to strip it. After what i found under all the guard i cannot believe how nice the cab is under the paint. Hardly any filler just primed and painted. No RUST haha

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
That's a lot of work to strip it all off, but I think your painter is right. Hard to trust whats underneath someone else's work. You'll be happy in the long run..Jim

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
That's a good problem to have "No rust, filler or surprises hidding under the paint".
That usually doesn't happen. I always look forward to seeing updates on this truck. Marc

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Thanks guys, mm its alot of work but it saved me $800 in soda blasting the cab. We bought ourselves a Christmas present today that should make it alot easier. ill post a picture latter.
But a few more hours and im a little closer. And my biggest pet hate is, people go to the trouble of putting one piece windows in them but do not weld up and smooth the indent from the quarter window.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Well all the red that i needed to take off in now gone it was such a big job, i really wish i had payed someone to soda blast it, but it all comes down to money.
I also did a quick mockup of where i think i am going to mount my exhaust, maybe a little further back, ill have to wait and see where the air tank sits. We also bought ourselves a early xmas present Going from 32yo compressor, not being able to hold a consistent 80psi To a brand new 283L/min constant 160psi, its makes a huge difference with spraying and air tool. Thanks Kabwe.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
I ran my exhaust like that and the reverb off the ground between the cab and bed gets old, especially idling at lights. It was certain frequency that literally cancelled out conversation, if I wanted to say something to the passenger at a stop light I had to power brake the engine off of idle. Also, if you drive it much, and care about how the underneath looks, you will be cleaning the rearend and gas tank, if rear mounted. This time I am running both out the passenger side just in front of the back tire.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
I really like what you've done in this build, great workmanship. do you have any pics showing how the bed mounts with the 1x1" framework you made for the raised bed? did you weld or bolt the lower frame to the bed sides?

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
I understand about the issues you had with your doors. I bought new replacement doors and the body shop is having a tough time getting them right. Those doors are nice but the fitment is terrible.
