Re: 67 GMC super custom build

went thru your build again. you have come a long way. You are doing a great job and sorry to hear about the body shop. That is why I did all the work myself. 98 % anyway. Was the guy that did your webbing a fellow board member? I need a set done for me.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

A company named Snake Oyl did my seat belts. Did a very nice job too. You can find them on the web. I wish my welding skills were better. I would do my body work as well.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

well since I am going to redo my cabs body work I am going to add power vent windows and locks to the truck. I think I know how I am going to do it. anyway I finally found the correct era style switch for the vent windows to match my other switches. I am not sure the locks are really worth it as the lock pops up when you close the door but I already have them and the switches so Ill add them in. ill keep you posted when I fab up some stuff for the windows. here is what the metal switches look like.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

A little change in plans. I got a Brothers Deluxe oak bed wood kit local for a really good price so i decided to use it on this build. Got it stained up this evening. I tested a small piece and cleared it to see what it will look like.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

Sorry to hear about the body shop problems. That's a pretty common problem when it comes to finding a good quality shop to work old trucks. Nice work on the wood floor and engine.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I used a color called arrowhead. It is the same as the stain on the maple i was going to use earlier in the build. I had my cabinet guy mix it up for me.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I was tinkering with this 70's Cadillac thermometer and this is what I came up with. Not sure if I am going to keep this just a tinker. has Celcius and Ferinheit and is fairly accurate. It lights up and will mount to the mirror arm. I wiped off the Cadillac decal and if I do use this I am going to have a GM decal made for the end. What do you guys think, cool or quirky?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I missed your reply on the stain color, i really like it as it something you don't see every day.
Per the temp gauge i say you got nothing to loose if ya try it, you can always take it off and weld up the holes and re paint it if you don't like it.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I got my 67 impala steering wheel all restored but it got painted black instead of red. I do kind of like it in black but unsure if I want to paint my column black with a full red interior. what do you guys think? black column and wheel or red?

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

the more I look at it the steering wheel/column needs to be red. The black just stands out too much. Black looks good in the newer stuff but looks awkward to me in 67 68 trucks. it doesn't have a supporting cast like black dash pad, rug and belts is what I think does this.

I vote red, but I may be biased... The pic with the buddy's is what mine should look like. Amazing build, hope mine will be half that nice!

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

here are the power vent window motors from a early 60's GM car. I think I can make these work with the a-1 electric power window kit. should be pretty neat. If I can get them to work I will get a set of 68-72 vent window frames restored and put a 67 glass in it so it doesn't have a lock. the motors will act as a lock.0

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

This morning I converted the dash top clock to quartz. I would have liked to leave it mechanical but it didn't work anymore and quartz lasts so much longer. very easy to do with the kit.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

I repainted the body and replaced all the old stiff wires with new stuff. Polished out the lens and chrome ring best I could. should look sweet all put back together. Still not 100% sure I am going to use this but if I don't, now that it works correctly and in nicely refinished, I probably wouldn't have a hard time finding someone who could use it in their 66 truck.

Re: 67 GMC super custom build

power vent windows complete on the driver side at least. Here are some pictures of how I made this work. they work perfectly too. I am happy with how this turned out. I will post a video of it working as well I just need to figure out how to do it.
