Re: Newtz '67 swb
Well kids, I went to pick up the boy from school today. When we went to leave, I started the truck and it backfired a little. No biggy I thought as we drove away. We got about 100 feet and it died. Then I saw smoke coming up from out of the shifter. I was confused as hell for a split second, then the flashbacks kicked in.....engine fire. I steered it off the road which happened to be right in front of the fire station, unlatched the boys seat belt and told him to get outa the truck quick! We ran to the fire station with no one in site. We ran inside yelling hello! The one and only fire fighter came out, and I told him my truck is on fire! He jumped in the truck and drove it outside next to the 67. It seemed like hours that we sat there waiting for him to get the hose out as we watched smoke roll from the truck. When he was ready I popped the hood for him, just to see that the fire was out already. He said he didn't wanna spray down such a pretty engine haha. He did anyway just to be sure. Called AAA to come pick us up with the truck, turned out to be Herm from Shaws. Some I'm sure will know who he is. He has driven for Shaws for 31 years! He drops the truck off at our house and has me sign. AAA will tow for 5 miles free, then charge after that. It was 7.6 miles to our house. After I signed his paperwork, Herm said he wasn't gonna charge me for the mileage, that I had enough problems. Not sure if it was because I hadn't shaved for a week or the fire Lessons learned? No more cheap paper air filters, and always catch on fire in a small town right in front of the fire station So glad that it wasn't any worse, especially with the boy with me! I'm sure he will never forget today! Pics to follow....

Re: Newtz '67 swb
If you look closely, you can see the fire burned a hole in the radiator hose. Looks like the fire put itself out.

Thanks! You know what as bad as it could have been, it could not have gone better. Considering what could have happened, I'm actually happy right now.

Re: Newtz '67 swb
I'm sorry to hear about the fire, and hope you get the truck fixed soon. I love the look of the tires and wheels, what brand are the rear tires?

Re: Newtz '67 swb
Thanks guys! Darkhorse, the rear tires are BFgoodrich Euro TA. 305/50/15. I've been told that they don't make them anymore.

Re: Newtz '67 swb
Glad you and your boy are ok the truck is an easy fix. However driving these old buckets you should carry a fire extiguisher as it could had been much worse..I have one inside the bed strapped on the side for quick access if ever needed.
