His name is "George" 84' C10
I'm back!! Sold my previous truck from the build thread (New year, new body 70c10 to 86c10) and been itching for another one ever since. Found this Beauty on eBay and the previous owner laid out the perfect ground work for me to take it from here. Chassis was completely redone, every line, bushing and full airbag set up with 4 link. Here we go.......

First modification in the books as soon as it hit my driveway... Previous owner cut a hole in the side of the bed for the exhaust. I did a similar exhaust cut out on my 70' with a FD 4" Storz connection as the tip and I think it worked out pretty good here?

So I'm in the gathering stage and have a line on motor. Will post pics once I get it. Picked up some wheels and tires and if anyone seen my last build, you know it was budget friendly .
Here's the rundown: American Racing Classic Torq Thrush 2 (VN215) 20x8 0mm offset 4.5" BS, With 255/45R20 Pirelli Scorpion Verde up front. 20x10 +6mm offset 5.75" BS, With 295/40R20 Pirelli Scorpion Verde rear. Rims/ Tires/ Mount and Balance were under a G note. Will have to trim a little of the inner bed to completely lay down in the rear. Also scored a set of bumperettes, which were hard to find but I think they look awesome on this year. |

Checked one major item off the list.
Had good communication with the seller of a 5.3 and was able to strike a deal. Funny thing, the motor was only 15 mins. away from where I purchased the truck (3 hours from me). 2002 LM7 5.3 LS Here is what was done and some goodies it has: 3 Angle valve job Bores honed Mahle piston rings Gaskets/ seals (full set) Melling replacement oil pump GMPP ZR1 cam Cam bearings PAC 1218 Valve springs + valve seats Speedmaster head studs BR7EF plugs The plan is to find a NV3500 trans that will bolt right up and will have a hydraulic throw out bearing this way, I don't have to mess with linkage. I know there has been some long debates about this trans. It comes from the factory mated to 4.8's and 5.3's, so its good for me. Don't plan on slapping a number on the door and racing this, plus who has money for a T56 anyway? |

Leave it up to me to get sidetracked....
Picked up a toolbox like I had in my other truck and plan on moving the air compressor, maybe the tank? and the battery in there. The battery is currently mounted to the frame rail under the bed in front of the passenger rear wheel. I found an old breaker box that will work well, once modified to protect it and looks pretty cool too. Here is some progress pics. |

Very cool build. I am not one for the "slammed to da ground" look, but with the wheels it looks nice. I love the bed treatment & the breaker box idea!!

Finally finished the battery move. Came to the realization that it must have been mounted to the frame before the bed was installed, because it was impossible to get it out! After a little modification, I was able to reuse the existing battery box by bolting it inside the new one.

I'm liking the battery box. My 64 had a smallish sheet metal toolbox mounted in its bed. It had some old Gates belts, tire iron, a few bolts/screws, & a bunch of dirt . I thought of doing something similar & using it as my battery box since the 'patina' matches the inside of the bed perfectly. But, it's not tall enough which would require tweaking the bed wood to suit the needs…. Still undecided on mine but I like your set-up. I even used/had the same tool box for my dually before raising the bed floor. It's now used for parts storage in my shop office (it's like a coffee table in front of the futon)

Busy and productive weekend. Was able to finally modify the inner fender wheel wells to allow those 295's to not hit when fully aired out. Used thin sheet metal and pop rivets and was able to bang it out in one day. Lost (2) mounting screws on each side, but still have about 5/8" clearance and retain the stock tubs. The undercoating covers everything up and as long as the water can't get in there, I'm happy.

Started some work on a radiator overflow. I've collected some cool bottles over time and figured this would work perfectly, since the trucks name is George
Dusted off the ring roller and used a water jet cut star I got off of eBay as the base. Still learning the ins and outs of Tig, so will probably Bondo to clean it up and paint. |
