Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
NOTHING BUT SPENDING MONEY........
My buddy Martin and I both spent a bit. This weekend was the "Black Friday" Sale weekend at Brothers Trucks over in the USA. I had decided to replace the door window rubbers, felts etc in both my doors and the quaterlights as I am going to remove the glass when I repair and repaint the doors. Previously Mate Martin and I had seen some 60-66 Chevy trucks with the 67-72 rear bumpers fitted, so they were on my to buy list as well, if the price was right. The photos will show that the step or number plate recess is inverted. For me the 67-72 bumper allows me to put my number plate bracket on a hing, and then to have a removable tow ball fitted when I do tow, with the plate folded up and out the way, tidying the rear en up some more. I will load the pics of the different bumpers later. Correct bumper for 60-66 Fleetside. Then the 67-72 style Fleetside bumper One of the things we have learned out of this truck Resto thing is that it is expensive, so we always look for ways to save a bit. This weekends sale meant the "savings" could cover the Stateside costs of getting our combined order to Florida before it went into a UK bound container that should leave the USA by 18th December. Ron at STS Imports reckons the container should be here late January. Then it is his costs and of course the always present Customs Duty at 20% on everything....... You pay duty on the vat you pay etc, so taxes on taxes. So looking at combined versus solo orders. Martins bits. My order including shipping. And of course the combined purchase of all our parts. Looking forward to getting these bits home in the new year. Also looking to buy a decent drivers side 1966 Quarter light window to replace my rusted out one. Anyone know of one for sale, please PM me.

Thanks for sharing guys. I do/did have a slight concern...... Looking at the fit, it seems one should only open he tailgate to "horizontal" though. But I have to say, the finished fit looks great on all your trucks.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Grizz I clearanced mine 1/4"(6.35mm) ALL around. Laying down the gate was not planned. I have air bags so if one wants a bike to load it's low enough or air out for max drop. I have a one ton with Cummins to do the heavy lifting. Great progress on yours.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
This is not "what I did to my truck today" but what I did to my truck the last 2 and a half weeks. Here is the Before photo:
The previous owner did a wonderful job on this truck but I did not like some of his decisions under the hood involving painting the alternator, a/c compressor, power steering pump and entire engine red. Also, under the hood was showing its age with dirt and grime, peeling paint. Quadrajet ran okay but leaked down overnight. The project involved an Edelbrock intake and 1406 carb along with cleaning and repainting block Chevy orange. I chipped most of the red paint off the a/c compressor. Repainted the power steering pump back to black and replaced red alternator with a new 110 amp chrome unit. I also wire brushed the exhaust manifolds and painted them with por15 grey manifold paint. Everything turned out okay and looks much better than before. I just finished up this morning and took the truck out for a drive. I have a little problem with the throttle linkage wanting to hang after hard acceleration. I will work on that tomorrow. Here are the After photos: Hugh |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Got the flat and low stance I wanted. 12 bolt rear reset with 3.73 gears and an Eaton posi. Disc brakes backed by dual reservoir master cylinder with brake booster. Drop spindles to complete the look. It now goes like hell, stops like an angel and sounds like a demon.
Thank you Switch Suspension for the suspension work. Now you have the confidence to do more C20s. The alignment shop managed to improperly re-attach one of the moon discs and it went missing during a test ride. A new one is on order and the truck will be completely done by the end of the week. Next steps: Interior refinement and then more power!!! |

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Had to be home early today for tele-webex conference.
So the minute that was over I headed for the garage to remove a panel to take to the paint shop on Saturday, to buy my 2 Pack paint and other consumables etc for the truck. While unbolting the 3rd bolt on this panel........ this happened. GRRRRRR !! Once I cut off the areal cable, as I could not get it unscrewed, and then cut the actual fitting off with a cutoff wheel, I had my colour sample. Note the trucks original blue colour behind it. I do hope I can the red colour matched up, as it really is very vibrant out in the sun.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III
Cut in passenger sun visor. Installed new mirror and arm. Window crank, now ready for winter... windows roll up! Ordered a Captainfab brake booster. Waiting on bags, CPP master cylinder and booster, tie-rods to be dropped off. Not far from Porterbuilt install.
