Good luck on the back-up motor option.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
You know the funny part of it all is that the 283 was the original plan for my 65. It should never have been the back-up motor! It was all set to go and in place but when we went to start it............it just wouldn't. We had the wrong flywheel and even tried a high-torque starter but no luck. Joseph scored a hell of a deal from my brother Fred on the 350 so we were both excited as all hell! We heard it start, drove it home and could hear it knocking.....Joseph tried some adjustments but after Fred came over and did a compression test we just knew the 283 had to go back in. We should have just stuck with the original plan and kept working on it to get it started BUT............small lesson learned......BIGGER is not always better. Sorry Fred I am not knocking (ha ha) your motor re-build but it's just one of those things!!!! que suerte!

I'd probably done better sticking the straight six and 3-speed auto back in my truck, after it got ripped off and thrown in the bed like a dead horse. $200 to find out the POS 283 the idiot stuck back in my truck had many, many cracks and then close to three grand to get the Chevelle's 283 rebuilt, in there, dressed and finished was a very expensive year on my part. I'm driving the sucker to the moon and back before I do that again. Mac.
