So I went and used my truck today...Couple cold cranks and she fired right off. When hot..takes only 1/2 a crank. The new HEI makes a heck of a difference...pulled my plugs for an exam...and we are running just a tad hot. Might need to go a step cooler...but I think as long as I'm running 92 octane I should be good...runs like a dream...now time for some nitrous!

What do you guys know about the transmission in this truck I believe it's a sm420 and would my 2wd trans work as a replacement I think the main bearing is going out hoping i can fix it this weekend

Should work just fine. The bell housings are identical between 6 and 8 cylinder chevy engines. You will have to change out the u- joints and such, cause ones a GM-1000 and the other a GM-2000? Half and three quater ton trucks have different style u- joints and such. Your tranny is either a Saginaw or a Muncie.
