Why not just modify your motor mount stands for clearance or fabricate some that will work and keep the exhaust manifolds you have?

I built my own frame mounts for my 67 C10 so I could use a set of different vintage big block headers on it. Not too difficult. I made them come in from the bottom of the top flange of the frame rails instead of coming over the top like stock. This gave me a bunch more clearance where you need it too.

Modifying my mounts is plan B at the moment, right now I'm going to try some Trail Blazer SS manifolds. For $50 shipped they will be the easiest option.

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Still having manifold/engine mount problems. TBSS manifolds didn't fit, haven't had time to figure out what I'm doing there. I did have time to order some parts and get a little wiring done.

There is a method behind my madness................some where

Computer was going to go inside the cab, but it just seemed too at home here.

Does it still work if it gets wet/damp? Keep at it, looks complicated, My next build is gonna be LS motor I think.

So what's up with the TBSS manifolds? I have planning on using some of them. Well, if I could ever get a sweet deal on some. Wiring looks good, keep it up!

The PCM was located in the engine compartment on the van it came out of so it should be ok. To me wiring isn't that hard, just time consuming.

They hit the engine stands. I really need to decide what to do.......grind some off the stands and manifolds, try some different stands or headers. I picked up a power steering box from another board member today and he gave me some V8 stands(THANKS RICK!) maybe they will work. I also played with the wiring a little more today, I need more garage time!

I've got a nice set of 98 Fbody manifolds that should fit perfectly. Let me know if you need them.

F-bodys are Camaro's and Firebird's. If you go to post 25 there is a pic Hart_Rod posted that has pics of all the manifolds.

Been a while. Just ordered all the fuel lines and fittings from summit and just about done wiring. Most of the loom is on still need to solder on a few more connections to the relays and tape up some stuff, then I'll post more pics.

Ya it did

Wires on the windshield need to go in the cab, just need to drill a hole.

Little messy, but I want to make sure everything works before I finish the loom.

No circuits were integrated, every one kept the same amperage fuse they had in the van. Safer in my opinion and should I have a problem, it will make troubleshooting easier. Relays are for fuel pump, key on power and starter/neutral safety. The fuse block wires were left long so when I add E fans and headlight relays I'll have room to expand.

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Had one of the Lokar column linkages on my Blazer. Super nice piece that takes out all the slop. If you haven't figured out the manifold/engine mount issue yet, you might try a set of 73-87 engine mounts. They are a completely different setup that frees up some real-estate in that area and updates you to the captured clamshell type mounts and bolt right in. I think I paid $10 for my last set at the pull-a-part. FAQ write-up here.

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

I'm at work and can't see the pics, you have 6cyl frame mounts in there? If so, I swear I read that they are shaped differently than the V8 mounts and these SS manifolds hit because of that.

I am using my V8 frame mounts in the 6cyl location just drilled a new hole in the crossmember for the bottom hole. I will keep in touch with you when I get my SS manifolds in the brown truck that will be at the house soon and if they work. If so then all you will be needing is V8 frame mounts, if not I need a new plan too

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Yes, currently I have 6cyl frame towers with the adapter plates cut down so I can use the 4.8's Ac compressor. I have a set of v8 towers sitting here that another member gave me (thanks Rick). The V8 towers are similar on top, but the dent is moved forward just a bit. I don't think its enough to clear and still allow for motor mount flex. I'll post pics tomorrow.
I've looked into:
73+ mounts, move the engine too far forward
POL mounts, move engine up and forward
ECE mounts, move engine forward and cost$

I even borrowed some 98 Firebird manifolds.......no better than the TBSS manifolds.

I've pretty much decided that I need to just modify my current mounts. Won't be too bad. I'm going to cut the towers off right above where the motor mounts sit and weld some 3/16" plate straight over to the frame then fill the gap between the plate and frame with same square tube. A couple gussets and I'll have all kinds of room.

On a positive note for the day. I hooked up a battery and she turned over and has power to all sensors! Now, do I buy HP Tuners or let a pro handle it

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

Humm, makes me wonder about mine. If it's close I can shim the engine up slightly so they will.

Also, did you look at the way the V8 mounts set the engine, I mean the mounting hole is designed to raise it over the 6cyl? Worth a shot, just compare the holes I guess

If mine show up soon I will compare, I do remember the truck manifold fit no issue it was just the pass side.

Re: '72 Chevy SWB, Project Driver

I made progress!: After a couple weeks of other projects, and my whole family getting sick, I made it to the garage and got something done.
Motor mounts finished. After destroying my 6cly stands(lets no go there ), I ended up just shaving the bump off the top of a set of V8 stands. I also had my computer tuned by Black Bear Performance. Pics will come tomorrow
