Damn that looks like fun. Much cleaner than riding in the Desert.

Re: Daverods project 66

I went to the junk yard today. Picked up a 89 van gas tank ($40). I think it a 27 gal? The first one I got was from a 81 it was a 33 gal. It fit between the frame but it sat up to high. Took it back and got the one I have now. I had to shave about 3/4 of a inch off the bottom of the frame and alittle off the front member. The filler neck was pointed up alittle to much so I bent it down alittle and drilled a hole in the frame. I going to put a door in the side of my bedside so I can fill it. It's been raining here a lot and the junk yard was a like a mud lake.

It was'nt that bad because they pull most the tanks and just set them in the cars/trucks. Still had to walk around in it though. I love junk yards.

Here in California they punch holes in the tank to drain them. They are usually not for sale. The one I got from a Blazer didn't have a hole in it, I thought.
I didn't notice it until I took it out. Normally they aren't even in the car. This one was, so I thought it was OK. Oh well I can patch it.

Re: Daverods project 66

I can't make up my mind. Static drop or bags. I would like to lay frame but because of the money/skill thing it is'nt going to happen. I was thinking springs would be cheaper $119 front, $119 back , a notch $179, and dropped spindles $300. But then I was thinking I should put bag in and just don't do the tanks and compressor untill later. What ya think? How low would it be if I do a notch and bags?

I would get dropped spindles, and lower rear springs. Or the jeep springs for the rear. Later you could do the bags. You will need the dropped spindles anyway. If you want it lower you can also add lowering blocks rear, and cut the front springs. That would be the best & cheapest way to go. The notch could be a "C" notch, but if you want to lay frame you would have to change that later for a monster notch.

I was thinking I could get 4 bags for about the same price as 4 springs. I know I would'nt be able to adjust them but could'nt I just leave them at a set height? With the springs I could go -4.5 and -5. If I just went with a c notch what would the bags give me? Would it be the same?

With a "C" notch and bags it would go as low at the "C" notch is. With a 6" or more notch it will drop down to the frame. If set up right. Wheel size has to be considered too if you want to lay frame.

The c notch from LMC it does'nt say how big of a notch it is. I was looking at bags from airbagit. Damn there are a lot of different bags. I forgot about all the mounting stuff you need. By the time you get everything it is more then springs. I got all excited when I saw buy two bags get two free.

I like the way the tank looks. How did you bend the filler pipe? I will have to look for and 89 van or maybe just buy a new tank.

I did have to bend the filler pipe just alittle. The frame gets wider towards the front so the further you push the tank forward the better. Looking at it now I don't think I would have had to bend it. It did start to crack alittle when I bent it. I'm going to put some JP weld on it and it should be fine. It's just a small hairline crack at the top of the filler tube where it enters the tank. I've seen some tanks where the filler comes out at a better angle and alittle bit lower.

Ya, it was a chevy .I do know that much. A blue Chevy sitting next to a red Ford . Just make sure you get a tank where the top half is smaller then the bottom half. If you get the bigger one it will stick up above your frame to much. I guess if your raising your bed it would'nt matter. I still have'nt made up my mind what I'm doing so I though I better get the smaller one. Also make sure the filler is coming out of the side and not the top. I did see a thread on here where a guy used the same tank, he welded the filler shut and put it on top. If it's on top you would'nt have to drill your frame and up could put the filler in your bed. I wanted mine on the side with a door.

This is a Flip Kit, and notch. The notch doesn't go higher than the top of the frame. A bigger notch called a monster notch goes above the frame.

This is the monster notch. The right side of the frame is still stock. This is what you have to do to lay frame, plus a flip kit.
