Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project

uhg... i had a fairly detailed post written, but then my wife checked her mail and it disappeared...

oh well... the truck is running under it's own power and sounds great. the clip is on and pretty much lined up. the hood latches, but it needs some adjustment to get it lined up better.

tomorrow it sounds like we might get hail, so my truck probably isn't leaving the garage for the test drive i had hoped, so i should have plenty of time to tie up the last few loose ends.

i have a craptastic amount of pics from the last two days that i'll post when i get home. my parents printer won't read my card and i forgot my cable at home.

maybe lurch can get some pics up for you guys tomorrow.

Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project

well, like lurch said, it's on the road and running... really really well.

i just got back from a 30 mile trip with only one heart attack turned minor issue. i got on the interstate and looked down to see the temp gauge pegged. turned out to just be a temp wire touching a no-no spot on the header and shorting out.

anyways, tomorrow i'm heading home and will post up a boat load of pics then. if you're on dialup, get the hampsters some energy pills cause i took pics of just about everything.

including a few pics in see-ten style.

Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project

ok, so i have lots and lots of pics from this weekend. a bunch from the rebuild, a handful of "cool" shots, and then a bunch of the tornado that came through 6 miles north of my parents place, where my kids, my parents, my truck and i were all at. we got sprinkles for a couple minutes. they got flattened.

anyways, here's one of the better "fresh from the garage" pics. i knew right where i wanted to go once it was on the road.

i'll be posting more pics as i go through them

Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project

sorry, yeah. i should be posting the good pics over here for the people that have been reading this thread for the last year and a half.

flipping between these two shots is kinda fun

Then on sunday i buttoned up the rest of the minor stuff and took her for the maiden voyage. this was the first stop:

then today we had to go into cedar falls to help take down some fallen trees from the tornado the night before (post regarding that coming soon). on the way i stopped and got a couple pics.

after cutting down trees for the morning, i went out and toured one of the harder (not hardest) hit areas by the tornado, then i made the 2 hour drive home. not a single problem or concern the whole way. even took the wife and kids out for dinner in the truck after i got cleaned up.

I used to get looks from people when driving it, now i get stares.

Re: '69 Longbed Daily Driver - Project

thanks for all of the feedback guys. i can't tell you how happy I am with how things turned out.

last night i had my first "incident" with the truck though...

i was driving home from an ICubs game outing around 9:30pm. I was reaching for my phone. just as i was pressing the speed dial for my wife i saw something brown out of the corner of my eye on the shoulder. Yeah, you probably already know where this is going.

well, a split second later i hear a thump da thump thump on the side of the truck.

I just kept going. i already had a pretty good idea of what happened, but i wanted to see it in the light, not in the dark. when i got to the gas station my fears were confirmed. It could have been much worse, but what i saw was an 8" dent on the cab, between the door and the bed. no paint cracked, and there were no scratches, just a dent.

when i got home i pulled out the body hammer and popped out as much as i could. now it's down to a 1-2" dent. Since i don't want to mess up the paint, i'll probably find a body shop to fix it the rest of the way.

anyways, that was last nights excitement. now lets just hope we don't have any more incidents like that ever again.

Ouch- hate to hear that happened. Probably lucky it hit in the pillar where it is stiff instead of the door or boxside.

That paint turned out really nice. Sorry to hear about the damage. Did you go back and see if Bigfoot was OK?
