Hey Bill, isn't that a beautiful truck, will never know if its a 456 truck or not. 35 years ago I had a 63 just like it but I wasn't smart enough to keep it, didn't realize what it would mean to me now, 409, 5speed with a 4 way browne. I'll dig out those pics and scan them. I've been wondering if I should take that 75 KW 900 that was sitting on my goose neck trailer and put a 456 cab on it, probably have to use 8v DD instead of the 350 big cam because of hood space. Former owner just rebushed the hendrickson rubber pad, its got aluminum frame and power steering. Can you imagine passing that on the hiway

That's pretty cool. Did they always send them out with cheerleaders on the hood? She used to be a bit too old for me. Now she's too young. One thing I like about photographs. Please,no comments here. I know she's also a lot older now. Now please leave me with my thoughts. I've had this cheerleader (with knee high boots) on hood fantasy for many years.

Someone around here put a '60 to '60 Cab on some kind of chassis that was pretty cool. A friend of mine saw it, although I never got a chance. It most likely is an out of town truck, but anyway my friend heard a Detroit approaching with the guy maxing out the RPM's and systematically rowing through the gears. He was expecting a GMC 9500, or an International, maybe even a Ford, but here showed up a '60 to '66 2-Ton truck. Believe it had a 6-71.

Not with authority. I've spent my entire career (34 years) in Light Duty truck (C10, 20, 30 series).

I will say, however, that I got the impression we would build whatever a fleet buyer wanted, including some very low build quantities. I heard the SEO (Specialty Equipment Organization) guys imply we've had some fleet orders for less than 10 trucks (like even one or two) that were built in a very specific combination.

I am probably more readily able to extrapolate and answer questions relative to design, engineering and production processes, based on my work in light truck plants and my studies of mid 60's passenger car assembly. It should be pretty much the same except the proliferation of models and parts in the Medium Duty and Heavy Duty ranks is mind boggling, as implied above.

34 Years? That is interesting.

Interesting that you have mentioned cars. My work today (Used parts for Antique Full Size Chevy cars) includes the '60's models.

One of the questions that I was going to ask was if they ever put a 12V-71 Detroit in a GMC 9500 Long Nose. There was an interesting debate at another truck board about it. Some knowledgable GMC guys say they never put one in it as it wouldn't fit anyway and another guy dis-agreed and said the he actually owned some. I was wondering if you ever heard of one. The last possible one though would had been in '76.

There are some great looking big trucks on here.

I really like the 50's GMC's. Here is an old 55 model 550 that was my Dad's truck. The truck was bought new by our local caterpillar dealership and he bought it from them. You can see the original cat yellow paint still on it. Sometime later the truck was painted blue. This truck has a 342 oldsmobile v8 and it had a hydramatic trans when it was new (it was changed to a manual in the 60's). It also has air brakes and power steering.

does anyone really know the difference between the 550,630 and the 660, my 630 had the 471 with 5 and 2 and was a factory air brake tractor.

Yes - I had a couple short stints at the various GM proving grounds, but the rest of my time has been in design, release, development, assembly engineering and new product launch.

My passenger car interest and expertise is relative to mid 60's Pontiac models.
