Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

My Dad had purchased a 1965 C20 Custom with a 292/3 speed column shift, brand new early in 1965 before I was born in September of that same year. I camped in that Truck, I hunted in that Truck, I played in that truck......I grew up in that Truck.

Now I have a Son of my own and thought it was time for him to share/create similar memories, so I found a near exact copy of my Dad's Truck(C20 Base Model with a 292/3 speed column shift) and had it shipped from California to Virginia. I have been working on it the past couple of months and have loved every minute of it.

True, its not the majority out there, but there is a following. Never think there is no value in a truck with 8 lugs and 8 ft bed and sits at stock height. Would have liked to see a correct interior with correct wheels, but it hard to get everything you want. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Ot...US_Cars_Trucks

Single stage, 3 part paint. (paint, catalyst, and reducer) its an industrial tractor, truck, and implement paint brand name "Majic". perfect for a Daily driver/work truck. Tractor supply carries it, and its some tough stuff to. the color i mixed by hand until it was close to the look i was going for, wanted it to look factory-ish. hope that helped.

unless that question wasn't directed to me.... oh well

go for it, iv always been function over fashion, but SOMETIMES its nice to make stuff pretty now n again. and the tractor paint if nice looking AND tough. what more could one ask for. good luck if you choose to go this route.
little hint: a little more catalyst made for a slightly higher shine.

One gallon for the green, and there was plenty of leftover, i had to mix the green w/ the white to get the color i liked. mind that they have to be the same brand of paint to mix. the white took little less than a quart . i was able to put down two coats of both colors w/ left over.hope it helps. so far this paint has held up awesome been using the truck allot to.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

I'll have to get some pics from the side of my truck. Mine seems to have that hotrod lowered front end but I'll get them when I get back from my underway period.

Yeah, they all have that. If they weren't higher in the rear you'd end up with the bumper-dragging-the-ground look when loaded.

BTW, more pictures of this truck halfway down page 30 of the pictures sticky/thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...449613&page=30

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Long time watcher, second time poster.
My Camper Special. 292, 4 speed, manual steering, manual brakes, and I only have one foot! Actually, this is the first thing I drove after getting a prosthetic! Just gotta pay attention to which pedal that right foot is on!
I'm going for that patchwork look, a different color on every panel, sorta. Mostly original painted panels, just mixed and matched. Bout the truck in 95 to make dump runs, and it's served well. Never seen the inside of a garage while I've owned it...
Needs rockers and floors, but it runs strong (2nd engine) and the people either dig it, or get the hell out of the way!
Keep up the 3/4 ton love!

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

My 66 3/4 ton GMC long bed (that I traded my 70 VW squareback to get..STRAIGHT TRADE!) and my buddies 70 ford f100 short bed wide block (thing is quick and sick as hell now. both us went through high school together (sadly getting the trucks after) and love both. Even if they are complete polar opposites we ride and cause chaos together all day! his truck makes upwards of 500hp right now. Will soon hopefully in the next three weeks or so be starting my build of a mid 90's super charged 7.4L vtec to throw under ole' Bessy. (we are both the youngest guys i've seen out here in Sin City to have these trucks together both of us are 19 and living LARGE!)

I was pushing it at 55 MPH. P/O put a 4 speed with a granny gear but gave me the original 3 speed on the tree tranny

FYI, both are the same 1:1 ratio in high "gear" (input locked shaft locked to output shaft and gears freewheeling). What rear gears and tires do you have?

I also tried my hubcap idea today; turned out pretty well IMO. I'm going to paint the centers red and see how that looks next.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Nice truck! Be careful talking about how you drive a normal 4 speed truck with a prosthetic leg, though--you don't want to make all the tough guys out there that think it's too hard for them to drive a truck with a clutch feel too bad about themselves, do you?

Funny how that works, isn't it?

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Well, I did have the prosthetic come off in traffic once... that was interesting.

I'm just looking upgrade the beast w/newer 3/4 ton suspension, and make it so it can drive with the other kids. That low gear ratio is a killer.

Re: Where's the 3/4 ton love?

Damn, I bet that was kind of interesting! You're looking to put disk brakes and a 3.xx rear end in it, I guess? No doubt that will probably make it a lot less thirsty cruising in the hammer lane.
