Re: post up your camping pics
Gee, how can mine compare? Ok, just don't compare...ok? Labor Day weekend I went to the Western Maryland Street Rod Association Round-up where everyone camps and has a blast for four days. Way more than a show. You can't see it, but I'm camped along the South Fork of the Potomac River, which is the boundary between MD and WVA. The second and third pictures are my neighbors to the right and left. I slept in a 2-man tent under the canopy. Fourth picture is to show the back drop (WVA side of river) and fifth is where I parked during the day. The area was roped off for construction of the grounds keeper's house (county fairground) and I thought my truck fit in there better than with the street rods. It was '72 and earlier, but I still believe a street rod is '48-back

Hey Tim,
What is that you're neighbor has with all the wood. From a distance it's looks like a 39 or 40 Ford, but I don't think it is.

Re: post up your camping pics
It's a '40s Dodge. It looks like he took a bus or other cowl & chassis and made that...thing out of it . I guess it's just for taking to rod runs and riding around? It's like a big huckster. Basically a covered flatbed. Thy had a couch for the second seat cruisin' around.

Great pics Special K. May not be the Grand Canyon or BC but still a pretty good view to wake up to!

Re: post up your camping pics
Thanks. Yes it was. A beautiful back drop and a great tubing river (canoe & tour kayak, too). Western Maryland is mountainous and all mountains are a pleasure to look at and be in. Cumberland was a fort in the French-Indian War and is as far as the C&O Canal went west. We're talking George Washington and friends. It is a basin where the Potomac makes a big u-bend where it broke through a mountain, Braddock Run, and Wills Creek all confluence. The fair grounds are out of town and down river

Re: post up your camping pics
I love pokin' around up in them thar hills. I miss the vast wilderness found in the west, but I'll be back!
I wake up early. Saturday morning I drove up river (south) to Petersburg, WVA and climbed up to Seneca Rocks. It was a hot weekend. I guess that's why there were no climbers. Climbing hot rocks sucks! I usually get luck popping in on climbers and getting asked to join in. Not this time...too hot! I got up to the base of the rocks and scaled around a bit just because I was there. Here's a picture of the rocks and another one with a fire tower and my truck up on Sidling Hill, Easternmost ridge of the Alleghenies in Maryland

Re: post up your camping pics
I agree. When I came back East I told myself it doesn't matter where I go as long as I let where I've been and what I saw remain a part of me. I see natural beauty wherever it can be found, big, small, whatever. Here I was years ago ('80s) in to Page for supplies from a camping trip when I lived in Mountainare

Re: post up your camping pics
with all the huge hrs at work, decided to skip house chores & take dawg & the quad up the mountains. when i went to load the quad this morning, a dam mouse had chewed my battery cables up....second time in 3 yrs, last time one chewed a hole in the battery & the acid evaporated out. goin' shotgunnin' mice tomorrow...lol
so went on a drive to Little Douglas Lake up the Coquihalla instead. dawg was in 6 or 7 creeks today...looking for fish in Hunter creek looking for fish in the Skagit river (and almost drifting down...) and about to go look for fish in the Coquihalla river under the highway |

Re: post up your camping pics
little douglas is up by Zum peak, fairly easy drive, only 1 or 2 spots where the road was a little chewed up, but no challenge for the crew
that's Vicuna peak & Guanaco peak beside Zum |

Awesome views! I seen a few myself this summer but not pictured. Now the truck is down for upgrades yet it's the fall season which is the best scenery time. Been riding the rzr through town and on errands just to say i got out hahaha.

Re: post up your camping pics
took a trip down a way old memory lane on my way to Foley. 'bout 40+ yrs ago, lived in a small house on this property. i think this is the actual spot where the house stood, has been 40 yrs since i been here.
i remember it had a well for water with a cranky old pump that never seemed to work. we would trudge up this path (still there!) to this pond that my dad created. Pierce creek is about 800 ft away & he diverted part of it by digging a channel & building a wooden flume in other spots. those logs were part of a platform he had made, & what we would dive off |

the military took over the land awhile ago and has been using it for training. they certainly cleaned it out... foley creek. with all the rain last month, water is everywhere, and running high. foley bluffs, would like to scale them one day |
