Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Thanks Ryan.
Well tonight I got the carpet trimmed and installed, I think it looks great for carpet that should be in a 67-72 gm truck. Had to trim the width and length, but using the trans hump from the same truck worked out very well. I think I can wrap up the under dash wires now, no issues have came up with that in the 500mi I have on the truck now. Truck should be going for sale next week.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Got the inside all done, changed out the steering wheel for a GMC. I think I figured out the boost issue, the aftermarket turbo that came on this motor is too big so I have a smaller one on order should be in Thursday.

I have talked to the previous owner that took it out of his jeep (Jeep friend) he said it was always slow. I also messaged the tuning company and they said that turbo was huge for this motor and it will have trouble spinning it. They said it should have a slight haze out the exhaust, that is what my big truck has and it has no problem making boost. So we will see. If your right I'll owe you a BEER!!

I always thought if some is good, more is better. This also applies to turbos...Ha ha ha

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

what RPM are you spinning it to? she might be slow to light, but if enough fuel it still should freight train at the top end.

how much does the truck weight? diesels love that extra load to light a big spiral muffler.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Sorry I was on holidays.
Found my extra fuel, I guess it was my fault really. I finally figured out how to hook up the OBD port and plugged my reader in, the computer was looking for the wastegate actuator that I didn't think I needed because it was being controlled manually. So it was in safe mode. I hooked it up (still does nothing) and took it out around the block. WOW I could not see the 2 lanes of traffic behind me way to much fuel. Still no extra boost, so I put the stock injectors back in to cut down the fuel put in the new stock size turbo and it is running great. Still a bit of smoke under full throttle turbo spools really fast gets to 12psi even up to 4500rpm you can now feel it pull even in 3rd gear. It is a lot of fun to drive now.

haha, a haze is one thing but no rollin coal! glad you got it figured out.

:switches gears to devil's advocate:
ramping to 12psi sounds like a stock tune, the little stock turbo can easily supply 18psi from just off idol thru redline. fun to drive it great, but she should be having traction issues in 2nd with that little weight on the rear end!

Good deal on figuring out the fuel issue. Most times it seems to be something simple that was over looked.

Have fun racking up those miles.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Love your AD as I love diesels!!! Really wanted a 6 cyl Cummins in mine but too many mods. Other engine choice would have been the one out of my 83 Datsun Maxima 6 cyl diesel but son still has it. That one would lay a cloud that could put a destroyer to shame. Pardon my ignorance but is your a 4 or 6 cyl? Are the new smaller Ram engines seem attractive for use in an AD?.

Agreed!! I'm still going to keep playing with the tune, but if it does not get any better I'm still happy with it.

Ya sometimes you just want to smack yourself for not thinking of it sooner.

There are a bunch of mid size diesels I would like to play with in the future. This is a 1.9L 4cyl tdi.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

I mentioned the diesel Datsun only cause it was an awesome performer. I traced it to an Isuzu manufacture. I do not think it was a turbo but was capable of cruising at scary speeds while getting around 40 MPG which was unheard of back when. Pegged speedo on a straight run in Wyoming or Montana. Not many made and fairly rare today. Best car i ever owned and son wanted it so there it went.

Thinks it was same size at a 235 so fitment might work.

It's gaining some interest no one has shown up yet. I'm not going to be too sad if it doesn't sell this year we are enjoying driving it Also I'll get to take it to some shows and park it beside my other one.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Well did more messing around with the sensors it now feels like it pulls better than my jeep with a TDI in it so I'm happy about that. I'll probably keep messing with it not much left to check. Buried the needle on flat stretch of highway yesterday, I don't think that needle has ever been around that far before me. We have just over 800mi on it now since I got it on the road beginning of July, one nice part is the cooling and trans fan hardly ever turn on. We are liking driving it so much we have to tell ourselves no we are selling it we can't have 2.

Re: 1950? S-10 tdi

Took the Black truck to it's first cruise night/show. We had both trucks cruising down the road, was really cool having both my trucks out at the same time. Let my friend drive the black one for the first time and my GF and buddys wife all hoped in together. My buddy and I where in my other '52. There was only about 20 cars there as the weather did not look that promising. We are going to a bigger cruise night tonight.
