Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

Thanks for the comments on my Dad. Some small incremental progress on the truck. I am trying to get everything that needs to be fabricated involving welding on the frame and chassis, so I can blow this thing apart and paint the frame and start reassy. I finished up the front bracing to the radiator support on both sides and finished up my Frankensteinish/Porter Built cross member/driveshaft loop. I need to scope out if I need to weld on the small clips that hold the end of the brakelines or if they will just pass thru the frame, other than that I don't think I have any more fab work to do but guarantee there will be something else. Always seem to need to remove new paint somewhere to weld on a project.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

Sorry to hear of your loss! On the upside your truck is looking amazing....one of my favorite builds! I'm curious....where did you get those hinge pieces you started with? And are they going to allow you to use factory style hinges? Again you are doing some great work!

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

Porterbuilt used to make those hinge mounts. I added an additional internal gusset to them because I am running the 1-1/2" bracing off those down to the frame horns. The factory hinges are mounted on them in the photo. I will not be running the springs though. I plan on just having a hood prop bar

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

More minor progress. Installed a removable bolt in battery box behind the cab. I will be able to install the box with the battery in the box and bolt in with four 3/8 bolts. I used Coleman 3/8 weld in nut serts so I don't have to mess with a wrench on the back side of the mounting fasteners. Top ones would have been a PITA to access once the bed is installed. Also cut out most of the last remaining areas of rust on the floor. Too bad the windshield gasket was allowed to leak for so long on this truck as it appears to be the source of most of the rust problems. The brace is fine so it will be a floor only patch like I did on the driver side. I also got my mufflers which I need to mount but I am waiting on some rubber insulator hanger mounts.

Where did you get those hangers for the exhaust? Those are kinda cool looking.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

Made new rear quarter mounts. These bolt in with the same nut serts I used for the exhaust hangers and battery box. Also received my aluminum 3-1/2" driveshaft from Denny's today.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

Decided to just do a couple short 90 degree tips on the end of the exhaust dumps. Installed the Lokar shifter bracket and shifter. I am going to cut a new hole in the hump where the shifter is now which is behind the OG hole the standard 4 speed shifter came through. I will weld a flush patch there and use a Lokar billet round boot ring and black "leather" boot.

Re: DURG's Black 65 C10

I did a few more things on the truck and then took it apart in anticipation of final welding, grinding, and re-sandblast so I can get some paint on the frame and gear up for final assembly. These pictures may not be in perfect order and possibly some of the same stuff I have posted before but I took some over the past week and today so I will post them anyway. I have installed the bracket that holds the gas pedal studs, cut a rectangular hole for a larger Lokar boot and ring, and installed a couple braces back from the driveshaft loop/cross member back to a plate on the inner frame where the 4 link front mount attaches. This cross member and brace is removable even though it should never need to be. I put a couple more pictures of the discontinued Porterbuilt hood hinge relocation brackets I attached my front bracing to also. I took a picture of a deluxe wheel installed on the Ididit column and also a small gusset I welded in where I notched the cross member support where I relieved it for steering column clearance.

Motor is out and everything is off the frame in front too. I just need to take out the 4 bolts and the cab will be off and I can move the frame around in finish prepping for black paint.
