Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
I tried washers under the hinge, but that did not help anything. I slotted the upper hinge mounting holes (to the cab) left to right, but they can only move out about 1/8" because of the way the door frame is boxed. I then slotted the upper hinge mounting holes (to the doors) about 3/8" UP, to raise the doors. I didn't do anything to the bottom hinges. I still need to raise the doors up another 1/4" to line up the trim line better. My next step is open up the slotted hole in the ends of the doors to alow the door to move up more. Presently the doors are 1/2" low at the hinge which makes them stick out 1/4" too much at the bottom and sit 1/4" too far IN at the top hinge (which makes them bind against the cab before the door closes alll the way. Long winded explanation, but hopefully you can visualize it. Maybe another 5 hours will do the trick.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
week 54 - Didn't get much time on the project truck this weekend, but I did get some more welding done on the hood. I did get some window & door rubber in the mail. Oh, it is now insured.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
week 55 - Well, I spent a lot of time on the drivers door and hood, but not much to show for it. I finished welding the hood and got a lot of body filler work done, but not ready for paint. Finally got the drivers door to close, but check out how much I had to butcher the hinges to get the door to line up. God, if I had know I would still have to do so much work to get the hinges to work, I wouldn't have spent the $300 getting them! The door still sticks out a little bit at the upper hinge when the window frame rests against the cab and the gaps are terrible, but I just don't care anymore I will weld some material onto the hinges to make them strong again.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
week 56 - Still working with the body filler on the hood. Getting closer. I also started working on the skirt pieces that connect the running boards to the bed. Once again I have 'fit' issues. The skirt piece was bent badly so I could not use it to set up the running boards on the truck AND the drivers fender was caved in 3" at that spot. I decided to modify the skirt piece instead of trying to pull the fender out another 1/4". I don't think anyone with notice.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
I found a before pic of the drivers fender. You can see just how jacked up that fender was when I started. so all in all, I think it looks great now.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
More from week 56 - I finally got the hood to a point where I could put some primer on it. Still needs touchup, but I am happy with it so far.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
Thanks, I am really jones'n to drive this thing. I took it down the street for the first time since I got it running 3 months ago and the tranny started to slip after the first 5 min. Hopefully it just needs some more fluid.
Well, week 58 has come and gone. All I got done was to get the passenger side running board, skirt and rear fender all bolted up. I won't bore you with pics this time. Plan for next week is to get the passenger side door to close properly. |

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
msaintg, I know what you mean about driving it. It is the best feeling after building something to finally be able to drive it. Yes, I hope the tranny is just low on fluild. Keep up the great work.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
Thanks Shannon.
Week 59 - Well, I don't know where I am at with this project. The newly rebuilt tranny is slipping (verified fluid level is good), don't know if I am going to have to pull it out to get it warrentied. Also changed the engine oil and found a little bit of water in it. So now I don't know if I want to continue with this project. On a slightly brighter note, I reworked the brand new hinges ($300 wasted) that turned out to be worthless crap. Heres a couple of pics before (slotted to fit) and after (reinforced to be strong again). |

Don't get discouraged, it'll all be worth it in the end, just keep your eye on the prize

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
Compared to what you've already accomplished on this build, you've just got some "tweaking" to do on it. Take week 60 off from it, and you'll be itching to get back on it.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
thanks Skyman, your truck turned out very nice. I don't think I will be driving mine for some time.
week 60 - Spent about 4 hours trying to align the passenger door.... still won't close. Spent about 8 hours trying to get the window and hardware back into the drivers door.... couldn't get the felt strip on, couldn't get the window to roll all the way up (bad regulator), couldn't get the track clips to stay on.... Aaaaarrrrgh! So basicly, I got nothing done this week. Mike |

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
Wow, Classic Parts.com is a great company to deal with. I have bought a lot of stuff from them and I recieved great stuff and great service. I contacted them about my door hinge problem recently and they decided to send me 4 new hinges (from a different supplier), no questions asked. Wow, great job guys.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
I hope the new ones work out better for you, I haven't bought any body pieces yet, but there are a lot of threads about fitment issues on this forum, it'd be nice to know who you can trust for quality parts

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
I received my new (replacement) door hinges from Classic Parts yesterday and did a test fit with them this morning. WOW, like night and day! These hinges are made by Dynacorn (in Taiwan) and far better than the other ones. Yay, I'm rolling again.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
week 62 - Didn't work on the project truck much this week... had a lot of yard work to do. I did make a patch panel for the passenger door. The PO was going to shave the doors, so he messed up the door and then stopped. Now I need to figure out where to locate the holes for the stock door handle.

Can't help with the door handle placement, but your truck is looking great and I'm glad to hear that things are moving on a positive track again.

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
is there a way to see inside the door where handle bolt holes were ? even slight indentations for 1 hole may help you line it back up to where it was originally

Re: 1947 S10 4x4 Blazer swap
Daze57 - yes, there is a bolt hole in the door that I can use for alignment.
Jim - thank you, that would be very helpful. I need to know where the lock goes on the passenger door. I was just going to copy the drivers door pattern onto the passenger door (for the handle), but the drivers door does not have the lock location. I decided that I would rather have the lock on the drivers door anyway. thanks, mike |
