Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Hey looks like your parts bin is almost ready for you to fire up the welder and start the metal surgery good luck and stick it out it will all be worth it and I would give that crapi a good inspection before you turn your loved ones loose in it , check those brake lines and all hoses real well since they can fail real easy when they get old no matter the miles

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Right on BBC72! I am going that way when funds are available. Some more pic's would be great! Packers05, I got the crapi/capri home last night, and yes have been driving-checking it out myself. Ran it today a few miles, and going to run 20 or so miles tommorrow. So far so good! Got my brake upgrade setup and looks like I need to change my valve covers, master cylinder will set out too far and hit my tall M/T valve covers. No problem, just need a set of stock-short covers, and also change my alternator brackets back to stock/setup. Really like the HAD products, and that is the way I need to go with this 8" lift!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Moving all the parts around in the basement for the remodel of the man-cave/family room! When I get it setup I'll post up some pic's of my pile of parts ready to go on this project. Got to think about winter setting in here, so better get going soon! Really looking at the HAD 1 ton driveshaft setups, but am looking at the heaviest yoke/u joint setup for these axles, any help, pic's, guy's? Looking for yoke/u-joint specs, etc. Thank's, Bryan!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Here is the pic of mine when i first bout it, has the flange in the pic. I will try to get a pic of it installed. It is a one ton rated CV and i believe they are 1410 joints, its beef believe me. You might want to go looking around diy4x.com They have a pinion gaurd I think it is called " The Guardsman" They have a ton of awesome stuff. Thats where i bought my disc brake brackets for my 14bolt and it was top notch. I plan on buying all my gussets and cage plates from them as well.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Crappy pic but this is my Dshaft from Highangle Driveline in Cali w/DIY guardsman. I run 1410 at the 14bolt and 1350 CV w/flange at Tcase. Oh and when you buy pinion yokes make sure they are Ubolt style not straps. Ubolt type is way stronger for holding the ujoints tight. Ya you are LONG over due for some pics buddy!! hehehe

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Got the new short valve covers and the alt brackets, need a set of v-cover gaskets and good to go there. Dad's got more Pontiac parts money coming next week, so should be able to order up the rest of my panels from Wes! Working on organizing all these parts to get some pic's, I've got a lot of stuff here ready to go on this project. Right now I am trying to find a "stock" aux battery box for my winch setup. I have seen a few listed here and there but haven't found a real good one yet. Any pic's of winch/battery/controls setups? I like Burt's setup, as he is basically running the same front bumper as I will be. Anybody working on a similar area?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
From one of our fellow members/vendor Pickmup. Search and you will find! Excellant service, and a great looking setup! Got my short valve covers and alt brackets to do the swap allready so good to go. If running stock valve covers you should have enough clearance to bolt this system right up. I am running tall covers that made me kick my alternator out farther, causing it to be in the way of the longer brake setup. Not a problem now with the short covers and a stock alt bracket! Oh yah, gotta buy a shorter alt belt, probably time for a new one anyway's! Dad came through with some more Pontiac money, so am ordering up 2 more panels from Wes. More pic's soon!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Ordered up 2 more panels from Wes for the rocker boxes, only leaves the rear floor bed panel for now. After that, need some outer body panels. Really want the HAD shafts, but have to install the 1 ton axles soon for that. Getting closer every day! Any more pic's of HAD shaft setups?

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
Thinking about fall setting in, probably gonna put K5 back in storage till spring. I didn't make a lot of progress this summer, but I did get it out and get it running. I also now know what all I need to do and what parts I need. I have collected a ton of stuff for this project and am close to having most of it to get started in the spring. Huge layoffs coming at my work, so moving carefully at the moment. Gonna work on the 1 ton axles this winter-prepping them for install. Gotta set up the 14 bolt with my rear disc kit, regear frt and back, etc. Looking for a stock set of driveshafts to make it mobile once the axles are in, just until I can afford the HAD shafts and thier driveline e-brake setup.

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
I like the direction you are taking with the K5, will be one stout 4wheeler.
I'am throwing a dana 60 under my 71 K20 and was wondering where you got the top spring plates from? What are your plans for paint? |

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
I got the Dana60 front u-bolt top plates from WFO. $35.99 for the pair, plus the shipping. wfoconcepts.com check them out, they have a ton of great stuff. Got the rear 14 bolt top plates from DIY, at diy4x.com. Planning on staying with the black topper, close to same brown paint, interior and exterior, and going with the lower exterior in a black bedliner type of product. Also going with the bedliner setup on the floorboards. Not really looking for show quality but I want it to look nice and clean. I plan on using this K5 when it is finished, and won't shy away from that tree branch in the trail! Hey, thank's for asking!

Re: My new build thread: Stage 4!
What help are you looking for? Seriously, Just give Jess a call and talk to him about what your plans are for it, and he will know better than anyone else on this board. He builds driveshafts for people like us all the way up to competition buggys around the USA. He will send you in the right direction and give you a price quote as to what you are gonna be looking at.
