Rebuild on a shoestring.....continued

Talked to Glenn today and he's working on the truck tomorrow to finish up the cab rust repair. I'll be picking it up wed or thursday to work on it at home. Plan to work on the cab floor getting it prepped for seam sealer and paint.

got the original door guts removed as I mentioned....

Here's Glenn finishing up the passenger rocker...keep in mind he used the smaller patch rocker by tri-plus...not the complete rocker and custom made panels for either side

Notice the "fabulous" job one of the PO's (not mmmoore ) did in installing the Hurst shifter. I got under the cab and used a hammer to tap the bent part back up then Glenn pulled it up the rest of the way and is welding it back. So no more ventilated cab

Once the cab floor is finished, sanded, seam sealed, and painted with undercoating I will put the rubber mat down and then the new hurst shift boot and chrome ring.



And here's the original color of the truck against the steering wheel I plan to use...I'm leaning towards the color on the steering wheel with the same patina (black primer showing through)

Looks good. those treats the PO's leave for us are always nice
at least they finally get fixed properly. My steering wheel is the same blue over black too.

Thanks. It's progress.... I hope to keep this one to use around the house for at least a little while My dad wants a load of mulch delivered

As always though....everything I have is for sale...since I lost my full time job I've sold all my "toys" including all the nice truck parts I'd saved for my next build...and had to abandon my cheyenne super build.

I'm hoping when I get my next full time job (traveling sales job that pays mileage) that I will be able to get a burb or find a crew cab project I can complete and use it as a daily driver....

Yes, worked for a building materials distributor. I did all the project estimation for cabinetry, outside sales, and kitchen and bath designs. One of the two offices I worked out of shut down and the other had layoffs so I was part of that. They had hired after my previous employer (a cabinet manufacturer) went out of business. So two layoffs in a little over a year...

Been out of full time work since the end of January. Been picking up odd jobs when I can, and like I said...selling all my toys...including my home theater, remodeling supplies, and trucks/parts. But I feel very blessed that I've still been able to provide for my family through that.

hope u get that new job! ive applied to work at fedex, graveyard to supplement some of my income lol.

between family responsibility....doing measures, estimates and designs for two companies, working on the truck, and restoring and selling truck parts on here, ebay, and craigslist I put in an average of 12 hours a day but sometimes as many as 16....

You got some pretty extensive rust. Ive seen a lot of the same but not near as bad as that. Looks like your going to get a lot of practice with that welder doing all those patch panels. Great to see some more pictures of your progress.

really? Compared to most of the trucks around here this thing is cherry

from what ive seen the guys on west coast are spoiled. assemble it all together and go. east coast areas have to find the best/not as rusty stuff and patch it like heck before they can assemble it.

thats why they dont mind payen the extra cash to ship the parts over lol

Exactly!!! And why people out west (especially CA) can't give away nice sheetmetal locally But can ship it for top $$$

The next really nice project I do (and likely my burb/crew cab) will be a western truck. I can't afford to pay someone a lot to do the work and don't like rust repair myself (prefer tearing them down, cleaning, painting, modifying, and assembling )

I agree 100% on the rust issue. I got lucky with my current project. I bought it from a friend of my brothers, who had it given to him by his father. It was in Texas from 1968 till 6 months before I bought it. The whole project is like night and day, compared to the rust rot vehicles I've worked on in the past.

After all the work and money I've put in my truck to repair rust and it still not being rust free. My next truck is coming form out west! I'll be ahead all around.
