Yeah man, I'm really excited about dropping that 351 in next winter!

Here is a victory pic of the windshield install:

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Finally got the passenger side quarter window frame prepped and painted. Also squeezed in some time to prime the floor area that is being kept. I will be replacing the toe boards and rockers this next winter.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

It's costing me a lot of money to get the quarter windows back in so unfortunately all the other little things I want to accomplish are getting pushed back.

The gasket set for one side of windows is $209! I got a quote yesterday to have new windows cut for the sides and it looks like they are going to be around $70 a piece. That's $280 a side for windows and $209 a side for gaskets = $489 per side. Damn. I didn't want to spend that much on just windows, but I guess I haven't really got a choice. I could re-use about 6 of 8 original windows but they are foggy and de-laminating and it would suck to spend that much on gaskets and put the old windows back in.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Cort, looks like you have a fine ride there and are taking the time to do it right.

Where did you buy your side window gaskets from? I need to replace mine, fortunately for me the glass is in good shape. Except for the driver side door, it's cracked.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Exciting things today!

Well, starting yesterday anyways. I was on my home from work and swung by this fabric supply shop just for kicks to see what was going on in there. Digging through their bolts of vinyl, I found a sweet vintage pattern that looked like it belonged in our trucks as the headliner. Unfortunately it was a pale pink color. Haha.

So, I bought 3 yards of it anyways and today I started installing it with an 1/8" foam backer for padding into my suburban. I spray painted it the same color that the rest of the interior is and all I can say is... well, look at the pics and you tell me what you think!

Looks freaking awesome to me! And factory!

That looks really fantastic! What kind of substrate are you using under the foam? Or are you mounting it all straight to the roof?

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Straight to the roof my friend. I am a little worried about when it is sitting in the sun, but since I live in the NW, it doesn't see that much anyway. We'll see how it holds up.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

After reviewing everything I have to put back together on the Suburban before May, and realizing how much it is going to cost to do that, I decided to save a few bucks that I would try and tackle my own upholstery.

I knew it wouldn't turn out perfect and this is only meant to get me by until I have real upholstery done (I'll remember these words 10 years from now, haha) but I think it turned out ok. I couldn't find and silver vinyl at the store so I used this neutral color and haven't decided if I'll spray paint it silver or just leave it.

What do you guys think? Not too bad for my first time ever sewing upholstery:

Got the drivers seat back upholstered this morning. I tried a new method of stitching and the corners came out waaay better than the first seat.

Re: '60 GMC Suburban (Project D-Daddy)

Accomplished things today!

I went to a local classic truck shop and bought the window channel I needed to finish re-building my windows and while I was there I found two clip style wheels that I have been looking for forever! I bought those up fast and I am really excited about them because now I can finish repairing/painting my factory style hubcaps and get those installed now that I have all 4 clip style wheels.

I also put the re-upholstered jumper seat in and installed one window.

Old and New

And my score for the day. Pretty funny that they're the same color combo as my burb.
