Thanks both are great suggestions, hey congrats on the new house D!

Thanks Jim, yes from the front cab mount to the rear most engine cross member hole it’s about a ¼” out and grows. Front cab mount to the front of the frame horn is currently an 1” all to the left (so ½” each rail).

We got to a point where we couldn’t get any more movement the way we have been straightening it. Problem is the front cross member is tying both rails together we need to remove it and go after each rail independently squaring as we go. Really glad I didn’t cut up the C30 RV frame nub yet, it has been nice to have a straight as an arrow template (kinda measures 0” and ¼” in comparison). Put the laser on the nub for comparison purposes see pics below. Brought the frame down off the lift to remove the front crossmember and see how everything looks getting ready for round 2.

Side note: I have been trying to get it on a frame rack but the shop I wanted to use keeps putting me off so maybe we won’t need them, I hope.

Re: 72 K30 Build

So round 2 did not work as hoped, crap! The frame shop put me off another week, crap! Not getting it and my pile o'crap meter is growing at this point, crap! Lined up another closer shop and am hopeful next week it'll be straightened by one of them.

Put the K20 trans cross member in place for a look see. Those are factory C30 trans cross member spacers/mounting brackets sitting there. Just a little trimming and they look like they may just work for this cross member, sweet.

Oh, and Misses 7dee2 wants to know when we're going to start putting in the front yard?

Can’t wait for the 2nd round of mockup with this frame. Removed all the rear hangers and finished getting the cab ready for a pressure wash.

That Longhorn is a super nice truck, just priced too high for me. I had half a mind to try and buy it until I say the auction creeping up and the new BIT price. Nice work on your frame too!

You know I agree but if it was mine to sell I'd detail the crap out of it (include a Highlander seat cover) and probably ask more!

Thanks for the compliment D! Here are some pics after the grind.

Re: 72 K30 Build

A little bit of progress our old K35 rear spring packs are now refurbished with new shackles, hardware, bushings & u-bolts. These were 11 over 1 but after removing 2 add a-leafs from each side they are now 9/1.

Ha, thinking it should ride like a Cadillac!

Re: 72 K30 Build

Don't think a light weight aluminum bed is going to be necessary, maybe a full bodied flat bed? Still takes two old guys and a small boy to move this things around!

Started a new thread for "Best Way" Spring Hanger Mounting? in the All 4x4 Tech & Off Roading section. Ran a search and didn't find a lot on the subject.

Re: 72 K30 Build

I need to ask a question. I might be able to buy back the rolling chassis from my old 85 K30. I know the rear spring hangers are not in the greatest shape. Other than the hydroboost is there anything else you would suggest getting from the truck if I want to do the conversion on my father in laws 67 C30? I am trying to get him to give me a price on the rolling chassis, hydro boost setup and the aluminum Eagle dually wheels that are on it.

Re: 72 K30 Build

Thanks junksaver! Me too, I'd rather be out working in the garage any day I can.

To get a rough idea for the frame brackets we used the springs with the shackles acting as a plumb bob. Taking into account there is no weight on the springs mounted the brackets a little past vertical closer to the front cab mounts. I’d hoped there would be enough room for the T400 shift linkage pivot bracket in a factory set of holes (Ha, tried the wrong side in the pic ) but we’ll probably have to get a little creative with that later. Tugged and pulled a little on the lower frame flange to make it sit a little flatter for the bracket. Measured twice (or maybe that was four times?) and used a 1-3/4" hole saw.
