Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
RIP assured. Lost my third uncle this year same day, 2020 blows
Don't know why, but late in life Fleetwood Mac has hit me pretty hard, my favorite on the drums, it never gets old. The band was remarkable.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Rob Welch's influence came through on that album. They were a tight unit. Mick is a great drummer, gets the job done. No matter what, he's there with it. He's a master of the shuffle for sure

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
I think of Savoy Brown during that time period along with earlier Fleetwood Mac. Although Fleetwood Mac was going into a more refined sound. Love that raw sound they and Savoy Brown had

Good stuff Tim, I never heard of Savoy Brown. Safe to say your music of choice would be southern rock/blues?
Here's a great artist, he has quite a few nice tunes:

Everybody knows Thin Lizzy for The Boys Are Back In Town but here are two of my favorites. And as I tell many, when I listen to Thin Lizzy my neighbors do as well.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
I would say blues, country, and folk rock are my main vein. You can drop the rock from any of them and I love it just the same. I guess the so-called highly cultured types would categorize it as "Americana". Just had to add that extra 'a' to give it that traveled the world to end up discovering what was in my backyard all along sound to it. But I am very open to music. The music I don't like is the created to sell sound and it comes in many genres (<another fancy word they had to come up with to please themselves )
I don't think many know much about Thin Lizzy. I heard their music back in the '70s but knew nothing about them. Just another hard rock band. But I learned they were from Ireland and one of the two founding members, Phil Lynott, was black. He was bringing out the heavy side of rock at it's beginnings when Motown was still on the charts. He was a true pioneer in that way. He also played with "Skid Row" which also had Gary Moore on guitar Here's one in memory of Spencer Davis

Tim,
Man, you and I could probably road trip together with no musical adversity for sure. One gone WAY too soon: This one always makes me pause just to listen:

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
I bet you're right about that. I'm not a "has to be my music" kind of guy anyway. Well... maybe some music I'd rather not hear kind of guy. And that's mostly pop hits, music with zero to little content, created to sell/get airtime... "Strictly Commercial". I was working on a lady's house and she says, "How about some music?". She puts on this "Hits of the 80s and 90s" station and it actually put a miserable slant on working. Music's not supposed to do that! There was a lot of great music out of that time period, and a lot of it got quite popular, but I didn't hear any of that. I recognized most all the songs and it seemed like a carefully selected collection of every song I'd have been happy to never hear again. Thanks for the memories... NOT! Buncha forsaken annoying "catchy tunes" that took weeks to get out of my head. One of life's great mysteries for me. How is it a song I don't even like, didn't want to hear, can get stuck in my head??
Tunes on road trips sure do hold those memories. I look back at places I went, certain scenery, and the music I was listening to comes back. Or, I hear that music and it brings those visions back. I was always big on cassette tapes, even back when 8-tracks were the thing. I always recorded my albums and a lot of those were never on 8-track. I also made theme-based tapes of my own mixing. I was 21 the first time I drove cross-country, mid-70s. These songs by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris will forever be ingrained in my memories of that trip. And this one comes to mind, too... Bertha/Grateful Dead Rolling my '71 Custom Camper out to Edisto Is, SC from Charleston early one morning, the family all still sleeping, I remember drinking my coffee jamming to ZZ Top as I passed by the country stores, garages, and trees with Spanish Moss draped from them.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Tim,
Oh my, I'm sure we all can relate to songs and memories. Just a few that still stick with me to this day: First one, I'm about 5 riding in my uncles 69 SS Chevelle with this on the 8 track player: Next up, my dad was a truck driver until I was about 9 and I remember heading to California with him one summer with this on the cassette player: This is one I sing along to (poorly but I don't care):

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Music, memories, and nostalgia sure seem to run together, don't they? Creedence Clearwater Revival songs sure do conjure up some vivid memories for me, too. They did so many songs that got a lot of airtime and so many could relate to they pretty much created the soundtrack for an era. I actually named my business Clearwater Construction Co. partly because of my love for their music. It was a culmination of a few things "Clearwater" but certainly the band played a large part in actually going with that name.
And that's what I am, a "Workin' Man" Speaking of memories, there is a song that will forever remind me of the moment I got married. We rented a pavilion at Washington Monument State Park on top of South Mt (Blue Ridge) near Boonesboro on Oct 7, 1990. A picture perfect blue sky full fall color day. She and I did all the work, decorated the pavilion, made a lot of food, and many from my family the night before teamed up to make the red velvet wedding cake. We rode off for our honeymoon on my Harley (she changed clothes in the bathhouse) for a bed & breakfast in Woodstock, VA. I guess a wedding day is a memorable day for anyone that has tied the knot. Now about the music. Only one song and it was my brother in law on guitar and my sister on her guitar singing. I knew nothing of what they had planned, just knew they were going to play something. Once the preacher pronounced us man & wife and we kissed, they started playing "Please Be With Me", the song done by Cowboy with Duane Allman. My sister knew I liked that song and she made the perfect choice. We stood facing hand in hand, hugged, kissed, and looked out to kin and friends. I couldn't have asked for a better song and they sounded fantastic.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
I don't thin Al Cummings plays that guitar loud enough
Hard to pick a favorite S&G, but here's one Who doesn't like John Denver My older brother and I had a Henry Mancini 8-track in our early teensListened to it often. Off my first "Rock" album, no kidding. I was 10, it was a gift from my mom's boyfriend. I think Horse with No Name has already been mentioned, so will run with this. Off my first rock album venturing out into the blues. Small town, they didn't play the blues until well into my teens:

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music
Speak of Frank Zappa, interesting read on his father, and Jim Morrison's as well. More than a few hippy musicians come from influential military fathers. Zappa always had the reputation of genius, that apple didn't fall far from the tree.

An obscure one! I love it. Thanks for dusting off the cobwebs of my musical memory
Got a little time, like 18 minutes, to go back there with Eric and Dwayne?

I enjoyed that thanks. At 18 minutes reminds me of the Watkins Glen soundcheck jam
Clapton and Bonnie and Delaney band folks I believe are on this George Harrison jam...

Taking things in another direction, I have a thing I swear I don't know how it found me. I think I dozed off and woke up to it. Cracks me up. So retro '70s goofiness. My thoughts after watching this were, "2020 may be the year from hell, but it ain't no '77"
