Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
how are you doing your lines?
I called NAPA and he has a 25ft section for about $20-$25. I'm thinking of renting the bender and flare tool from autozone and going for it myself.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I thought of buying a pre-bent Stainless steel kit but the price is a lil outrageous IMO.I am going to buy a big long section of line and bend them and flare them myself.I already have the tools, its not my first time doing it,I still hate it everytime I do it thoughIt will be fun running all them feet of line through the frame rails.I probably will buy and start running brake lines this week

Hey D, did you check on that through one of our Vendors? I got my SS lines
from Tim Christian, very happy with the product I got and reasonable to me.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Motor time?...you bet
Worked on the motor tonight.I chose the best of several 350s to use.I chose a 2 bolt as it was in the best shape,I would gladly take up a offer on a 350 4 bolt though.... Anyway the heads are off,and I have already had some heads rebuilt for it.I have the complete top end off, have a new edelbrock intake, still need a carb though.I also removed everything needed to remove the crank.I might have the motor down to a bare block tomorrow.Oh the joy of motor work... Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Motor work rocks, thats one of my favorite things to do.
I'm using a 2-bolt for my future motor too, except not using stock crank caps, going for the splayed caps, much stronger even better than a stock 4-bolt main

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
More motor work!!!!
I managed to get the crankshaft and all 8 pistons out of the block tonight. Now I only have to remove the cam and lifters and then I can send the block to the machine shop Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 02-28-2007 at 11:16 PM. |

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Little more motor work,I managed to get the lifters out(that was fun) and remove the cam.Now its just a bare block.I might get it taken to the local machine shop next week to be dipped and cleaned then bored over possibly.Im running out of stuff to do...lol
I guess till it gets back I will get the cab in the shop and do body work on it and get the new rockers, cab corners, and a little bit of floor put in.Plus I have to cut out the hole in the floor for the transmission hump as Im using a a/c cab off a 2wd that was a low hump floor.I didnt want to spend alot more money on fixing the original cab.Might work on the short fleet bed too unless I find a better one at the junkyard saturday. Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I dont blame you,I have been collecting parts to build a motor for months and finally putting them to use.I know that my motor needed work so I decided to work on it now, rather than after the truck is painted.I really dont need much, just gaskets, bearings, rings, pistons, cam, and carb.I guess now I will be focusing on body work as the rest is done.I want to atleast get the firewall painted before the motor goes in.I have collected up some patch panels so body work shouldnt take long or cost much, till it comes time to paint..

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
whats the plans for paint? farming that one out or shooting yourself? (paint I mean!)
My engine could last years or days...smart thing would be to tear into it for some preventive maintenance...budget dictates for now...

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
I am going to brush up on my skills, paint the firewall myself. If I like my painting I might paint the entire truck,if not the firewall is staying painted and I will hire my friend to paint the rest of the truck. He is a professional painter, but paints vehicles in his shop when he isnt painting them at work. His paint jobs which are usually around $6000,he will do for around 3k..

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
Thats what color mine was originally.I will be going to look at color choices and have some color photoshopped on the truck once the body is back on.
The emblems will only be "8 350" ,and Custom Deluxe/10 The "4 Wheel Drive" emblems were not put on after 70,I have some of them, they might go on or they might not.I dont know.I have also been deciding on clear, deluxe,or original style sidemarkers, and mid 70s van sidemarkers...so many choices Last edited by 1969k10stepside; 03-03-2007 at 08:05 PM. |

Mine wasnt a original custom but the 2wd donor truck was so thats why it will have custom deluxe emblems

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
What do the 4 wheel drive emblems look like and where do they go, my 68 K20 has nothing like that, but I might be interesting in putting a set on.

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
yeppers, they go under the front marker lights on the fenders... you can barely see mine in my profile picture.
not cheap if you buy them repopped...40-50 bucks if I remember... Dustin, if your not gonna use them I would like to see your two best and compare to mine, we might be able to strike a deal...

Re: Its the shortbed's turn "Project Junkyard Resurrection"
The one in the pic is the best. The other has some grey primer on it.The primer could be removed and re painted....but they need some paint anyway.I will see if I can dig them out of the emblem box with all the emblems in it
