Re: 59 Chevy Build

guess it has been a while since I posted an update...........had to go through 3 pages to find my thread........anyway, I took the truck for it's first maiden ride today and overall I was pleased with the performance. Anytime you build something like this you hear thousands of noises that may or may not be there. I did hear some abnormal noises and brought it back and lifted the front end and found some bolts that were not as tight as they should have been. Also, I figured that since it was up I might as well wire the rotor bolts together just for safety sake. I was happy that it never got above 187 degrees on the temp. I am now waiting for it to cool so I can set the timing.......

Re: 59 Chevy Build

Not trying to be an ass, little constructive criticism, but when u safety wire bolts, wire should NEVER be a straight shot between holes, always wrap them such that when the first loosens, it tightens the second one. If you question if its "wrapped" around enough, go to the next hole. That and it's better (more of a pain in the ass) to wire the whole ring of bolts together. HAHA sorry spent a year being safety wire ***** on a race team

This is good information. This is the first time that I have done any wiring of bolts. I had the tool laying around for about 30 years and finally found a use for it and was so proud of the way it looked........oh well, it might not be functional, but it is pretty..................thanks for the tip.

I'm itchin to see the results of that. I've been dreaming of a gearvendors overdrive all winter. You going to do the install yourself or get a tranny shop to do it?

I spoke to the company and was told that it is a very "straight forward install"............with that in mind, I am planning on installing it myself......I am not at all proficient with trannys, but, this sounds like a very easy fit.......we will see.

Re: 59 Chevy Build

Yes, thats the way I was leaning. From what I have found out, the worst part is getting the driveshaft shortened and re-balanced. Some vehicles have clearance issues with the floor/tunnel. I haven't checked mine yet, but plan to. But still, should be no big deal.

From what I am hearing, the new unit(s) are not as bulky as the old ones. As far as the drive shaft, it will have to be shortened, but that isn't a big deal, in fact I just had it done when I built the truck. I did raise the motor when I set it up and I am hoping that there isn't any issues there. Guess we will know soon enough............

Re: 59 Chevy Build

Well I got back from my family week in Florida. I took a run up to Palm Harbour to check out prostreets trucks in person as well as pick up a pair of wide whites I had delivered to Bobs place. We had hoped to go over to a cruise on Friday but it rained. His trucks look great and Bob turned out to be a nice guy as well
Had a good look at the trucks and a chat as well. Left his place almost to late and made the Little Gasperilla ferry with 5 minutes to spare.
Great meeting a fellow member in person. Thanks Bob.

Re: 59 Chevy Build

Been a while since I last posted here so I thought I would post a few pics on what I have been tearing up lately..............Going completely through the prostreet truck and changed the front suspension from the red truck to the black one. I knew something just wasn't right with the black one because it sat to high in the front. Come to find out they sent me the wrong shockwaves. Anyway now you can see that it sits a lot lower in the front and as soon as I figure how I want to notch the bed, it will go down a lot more in the rear....................

Re: 59 Chevy Build

First off the red truck's motor is upside down Bob
2nd the black truck is getting down in the front now looks great.
time for a little dog house in the box for the pumpkin or raise the floor?
What did they do wrong for the shock waves?

Re: 59 Chevy Build

I was quite impressed with his work. 2 car garage. It was neat his wife is totally into the build as well. Talking about getting a new air floor jack and getting down and dirty with the build.
Sounds like she would like to build a rat rod.
Man my wife has been in my truck once and that was sitting low in the seat with a ball cap and dark glasses on...
